6 month diet complete

I just came from my primary care physician, my last official weigh-in of my 6 month physician supervised diet for Cigna. In the end, I lost only 10 pounds. AT one point I was down about 24 but had a car accident on April 2nd which had me on the couch and eating some of the comfort foods for a while.

I am working on gathering all the needed documentation now. Just ready to get this done. I am in such a better place, my food habits are greatly improved.

It's time for the CHOP!

So can someone give me a reason to NOT do WLS? I've been researching with my most skeptical eye, but can't seem to find a reason to not do it, given the benefits. Just curious what your thoughts are.

Congrats on finishing the diet. Cigna can be tough, so I'm glad you have a supportive physician.

The only time I'd tell someone to avoid WLS would be if I didn't think they could comply with follow up care. As long as you understand the risks, the benefits, and the need for follow-up, you should be fine. Take your vitamins, follow protocol, and be healthy. All the best.

Yay on getting through the 6 months.  Good luck on the next step - insurance approval.  I'm sure all will go well.

As far as a reason not to do it?  Well, RNY is a MAJOR life-changing thing.  It is just a tool to help you turn your life around, lose the excess weight that you no longer want, and become healthy & vibrant.  It will take a lot of commitment and follow through on your part.  You will have to be willing to completely change your relationship with food.  If you are not 100% committed to this, then do not have the surgery.  This is a very big deal that requires you to take it on whole-heartedly.  I know someone who did not take it on seriously and wound up bursting their pouch a few days after going home from the hospital because they eat like they did pre-op.  This person spent about a month in ICU and almost died.  This is major.  If you're not ready to take it on, then don't.

All that being said, it was by far the best decision of my life and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is ready for a major change.

Good luck!  I'm sure you'll do great!

Congrats on your 6 month start to your WLS journey. Many question why they must go t through a 3 or 6 month diet and exercise routine. It's generally for insurance purposes to baseline the patient and get a more accurate picture if the patient is suitable for WLS. The side benefit that you mentioned is a BIG plus. You have changed your eating habits and that will pay back big time post-op.

Why not get surgery?  Hopefully your surgeon covered these. I am sure you can Google it ande find a variety of reasons, some valid and some not -- Hey, it's the Internet. I would say the most compelling reason would be that it is surgery and there is some element of risk. That is true of any elective surgery. Other than that, if you truly feel that you could not live with the changes in diet and lifestyle post-op. now is the time to back out or lay low for a while and do more research.

Thanks guys.

After 5 years of research and 'thinking it over' and procrastinating and saying, I can just do it myself, I feel as prepared as I can be.

I have a very supportive partner who has encouraged me to do this for some time - not because he doesn't like me exactly how I am -  but he sees how unhappy I am to be this big.

Follow-up is not a problem for me. Following the ":rules" is often a problem for me, I do like to defy authority. But I have gotten through so much of life (the crappy part) the last few years, I know I can handle this. And I'm so excited to feel better and do the things I want to do. Such mudane things as sit comfortable in booth, ride a rollercoaster, take long walks, go hikling, play tennis, scuba dive --- the list goes on!

Time to reroute my guts!

I should have the remaining documentation to the surgeons office by early next week, and with approval, looks like surgery about 4 weeks after that.

Congrats on finishing the 6 month diet. I had Cigna too and I had to do the 6 months diet too.
At the time I was annoyed that I had to wait even longer, but looking back it was a positive thing. It forced me to really understand what life post op would be like.

Good luck!

I'm a little late here but, way to go on the 6mos. diet.  It is inspiring to hear the dedication you are putting into taking care of yourself.  Keep it up. Be sure to let us all know how things unfold over the next few weeks.  We are all in your corner.
