So glad to find this site since I was definately feeling in the minority at the support groups and on mnay blogs.
I am 13 months post surgery and have lost 40 pounds which although good, I had accomplished this in most of the weight loss programs I had previously funded!
So know that it's the beginning of year 2 on this journey, I would love any feed back to move this back to 1-2 pounds per week as opposed to every other week, if that.

Thanks!!!

lap band

from what I know about lap band, 40lbs is an average weight loss after 1 year.  Are you eating enough protein? exercising? drinking plenty of fluids?   That will all depend on your weight loss as well.
Have you talked to your doctor about your weight loss?  The doc might have some more insight to offer.

the exercise piece is not as strong as I would like but the rest is in place.  I have gone through the eating too much and getting sick moments, but at least I know the band is working.  I have an appt in May with the Dr. to get some feedback and hopefully more tips.  I see you had bypass.  I really debated having that procedure intead, but ended up too afraid.  What has your experience been like?

My experience with the bypass has been great!   I only had 1 minor complication and that was a marginal ulcer, easily treated with meds. (Prilosec).  My total weight loss is 105 lbs, I still have 15 more to go.  My weight loss will slow if I don't get enough protein or drink enough fluids, so it's important to always monitor those.  Exercise is a large part of the weight loss journey. If I don't get exercise the weight will also slow down and I will just feel so gross.  I'm used to being active now  which is a good thing.  I'm also the type of person that has to enjoy exercise, so I love to swim, so I do water aerobics.  I also do a lot of walking.

So would you consider RNY now?

I have thought about it.  I say I suffer from RNY envy but my fears took the better of me as did my spouse and family members (all doctors) opinions.  I just went to my support group last night and rather than talk about reading lables we actually talked about the journey and the struggles and the joys and it was so uplifting.  Doyou go to support groups? what do you think about joing weigh****chers?

I have not been to the support groups recently, but I want to start going again.
Weigh****chers is a good plan but I think you'd be better off going to a really good nutritionist.
A nutritionist and dietician know more about how much protein and carbs and fat your body needs where weigh****chers focuses on portions and eating in balance.
When I looked into surgery I thought I would go for lap band. After talking to my doc's, they said
that RNY would be more beneficial to me.  I had insulin resistance and losing weight was impossible, so the lap band would not be a good choice for me.  I was terrified of the RNY but in the end I wanted whatever was going to produce the best results for me.
