I'd try to take at least two weeks off, if you can. I just started back at work today, for about three hours. I got pretty tired, pretty quickly.

The explanation I got was .........

It's not really about the type of job you have ...the time of from work is more so that you can focus on yourself for a few weeks. The liquid schedule is HARD! And the problem with jobs is that people get distracted and forget to follow the schedule and after you have surgery it's not like you can play "catch up" and get in the fluid and protein you missed.

I took about 5 weeks off because I was sooo exhausted!  The surgery wears you out because you are getting so little calories at first.  I would not rush back after surgery but take the time you need.

I had a little bleed after surgery and ended up anemic and needing a blood transfusion.  My hospital stay ended up being 6 days total.  I still went back to work after 3 weeks (planned time off).  I drive 40 minutes each way and that was a bit of a challenge.  I was bored at home by myself the last week off but very tired when I did finally go back to work.  Sometimes, I wanted to shorten my day but the drive did not make partial days reasonable.

With the RNY, I was fine at 2 weeks. With my revision to the DS, I needed a full 6. You're young, I'm sure the 2 weeks will be enough. Best of luck to you. :)

OK...so maybe I am the exception...but my surgery was on 2/26/10 and I went back to work on 3/8/10. That was plenty of time for ME. My doctor suggested 2 weeks but said that if I felt up to it...I could go back whenever I wanted and felt up to it. I also have a sit down job. Good luck to you!

that helps alot....I asked my surgeon and he said based on what you do at your job, your age and your health currently...i don't see a problem with you going back to work after a week....but that I should listen to my body......i just wanted to see if i could find somone who went back to work after a week or so.......thanks alot!
