How many of you were in a relationship when you decided to have the surgery? How has the surgery impacted your Gay or Lesbian relationship? Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly !  

I am in a relationship with a person who supported me 100% preop...and continues to postop! There really hasn't been any "ugly" except for maybe my mood swings occasionally.....lol She copes with them pretty well though. Sometimes I wonder if I REALLY know exactly how she feels about it. At this point I can only take her words at face value - the proof is in the pudding.

Uhh...well....relationships in general can be a roller coaster ride if one person goes for WLS. My partner decided to have surgery a year and a half after I had mine ...now the relationship is even better.

Well, my gf at the time was very supportive of me when I was pre-op for about 6 mos.  However, her cousin had RNY several years ago and died of complications a couple days later.  So my gf was freaked out big time and broke up with me right before my surgery.   I'm now 7 mos post-op and we're working on getting back together because we are stll very much in love and we've both been thru a lot of intensive therapy over the past several mos.

Maryn that is great news! Didn't she live in the Portland area? That would be great if you could work it out!

Yes she's from Portland.  And yes we're getting back together. She's flying down here in 4 days. I'm so excited and completely in love with her! :-)

My relationship of 5 years is unchanged.  My partner has always been supportive and continues to be . . . she makes my lunch every day!
