Well, I don't blur the gender lines, as I love being a girly girly (ok, I tend to wear a baseball hat once in a while) but I've had the lapband in 2003 and VSG in 2009. And I'm always around to answer any questions you might have...

I, too, don't blur gender lines. I had RNY in 2003, and a DS revision this past December. I'm always willing to answer any questions. :)

Hi everyone. thanks for your replies. i am just looking to talk to someone about gender identity and expression before and after surgery. i'm just curious how people's body image changed after such a huge physical change, and if any of you found it easier to be feminine or butch or male or female or whoever you wanted to be after you've lost so much weight. clothing and fashion is very limited when you are so big. it's hard to imagine what it will be like to just go to a store and be able to pick out anything to wear.

this is hard to explain, that's why i was hoping to talk to someone who is transgender or who used to be unsure of how they fit into gender roles. i'm just wondering if these body image issues changed with losing so much weight.

I know for myself that I had a bit of a panic moment where I freaked out about being small. This was because so much of my identity had been tied up in being a big butch lady-man, and thought that if I was skinny I would lose my presence.

That is not the case, I am still me, still pretty damn butch, but now I just feel amazing and can do so many things that I haven't done in such a looooong  while. I don't think it's had anything other than a positive effect on my self-image and expression.

Wishing you the best!

Hi Murf,

I'm genderqueer (ftm leaning) and my partner is actually in the process of transitioning mtf. I'm happy to talk whenever. PM me and we can exchange screen names to chat or whatever you want.

Hey Murphy,

I am a trans guy...I transitioned before my WLS....I had WLS almost a year ago.
I would be happy to chat with you... It is a unique experience in regards to transitioning x2.
