Springtime and Weight Loss
Hi Group,
It’s been a while since I have posted. Spring is finally arriving in Ohio. Man, we had a hell of a winter. Snow was on the ground until last week. Been in the high 50s – low 60s all week with sun…finally!
I’ve been doing well with my diet and exercise. This winter exercise was just a struggle for me. I get up at 5:00 a.m. to exercise and I was so unmotivated, but I managed to stay on track with the exercises. Dietwise, I strayed at times and found myself up 4 pounds since Thanksgiving.
I’ve been working on getting that weight off and am down to just being 2.5 pounds higher. I think the change in weather and ability to get outdoors is a big motivator for me. Two weeks ago I bought a new sport hybrid bike and have managed to get out every night this week. What a difference a quality bike makes in the ride. I did 10 miles last night and was beat. I am definitely out of shape for these type of rides. Still, my attitude and happiness is much better these days.
I am hoping to be riding farther and longer in the coming days. Two friends from my WLS Support group and I have setup a cycling club targeting WLS patients. I will post information about it next week when new present it at our support group meeting. As a ride leader, my goal is to get out on longer rides 2 times a week and shorter rides 2 times a week.
Happy spring! Tom

Spring = awesomeness! I'm in Boston and we've had bad weather too. It is also FINALLY nice out (last weekend it rained for 4 days straight - ugh!) and will be 70* this weekend.
Good luck with your biking - it sounds like you've really dedicated yourself :) I would love to get a great bike that I can use. That's awesome that your attitude and happiness has been much better - attitude will get you anywhere
Enjoy the beautiful weather and Happy Spring to you too

Good for you Tom! I ride an indoor bike everyday. Maybe it's time to take off the training wheels and get a real bike! Of course, that means I have to figure out where to ride. That could be fun I guess.
You've inspired me to do a little research and see what I can figure out.
2.5 pounds over the winter isn't too bad. You can burn that off in no time! I know you can with the right motivation, meal planning and exercise. You are off to the right start already. Keep up the great work.

Mick, I love cycling the rail trails, abandoned railways turned into linear parks. They are everywhere. Go to www.traillink.org and search for trails near Atlanta. I am sure there are many. I find they are all a little different and an enjoyable ride. Many travel through small towns with nice places to eat and sightsee. we generally do a 20 to 30 mile round trip ride on a Saturday or Sunday. Give them a try. Tom
