Too Tight?!?!?!?!?
Good afternoon all. I have been banded since March 2009 and doing pretty well I think. However, when I get a fill I always feel awful. Its like nothing will go down including liquids. When I go to get a fill I will drink water after as they suggesst to ensure it is ok but then the next day or so I still feel bad which is the reason I have only hand maybe four fills. Well, I got a fill on Tuesday February 2 and am still having difficulty getting anything down and keeping it down. Does anyone have this problem and any suggestions for me?
I was also banded in March 09. I've had 3 fills, the first of which I had no problems with. The second one, I had the same issues you have had and it happened the second day after the fill. I'd take even a sip of water and within a few minutes would be in pain and have to help it come back up. I ended up in the ER and had everything taken out. The next fill I had was just under the amount he'd put in previously and I've stayed there since. I also have acid reflux and I don't know how much this contributes to the problem. Have you discussed this with your surgeon? I'd be very interested in hearing what he/she says about it.

It definitely sounds like you are too tight. You should be able to eat "normally" after 24 hours. Actually after all my fills, I could eat with no issue. I would definitely call your bariatric center and describe this issue. I am sure they will have you come in. Often they use a fluoroscope to see the restriction. The band is not a tool to punish you for eating. It is a tool to remind you to eat less and help satisfy yourself with less food. I have never had this issue myself. I can't quite remember how many fills I have. I think about 6 fill and I am 8.2cc in a 14cc Lapband. Good luck and let us know how you are doing. -- Tom
