my fills get tighter... and my food pleasure is going away...
Hello Banders!
Question ..... I have noticed that as my band is getting tighter I am having trouble digesting/eating things I once enjoye..., as recently as last month. I assume that is normal?
I used to get 1/2 a baked potato at Jason's deli. I would get it with bbq chicken and cheese only, no butter and a side salad. Today I ate the salad and had two bites of potato and was filled.
Tonight I am trying to eat the potato and I having a rough time getting it down.
Is this normal? as I get tighter will there be more things that bother me?
I am at 7.5cc's and down 70lbs!!!!

I can't eat potatoes any longer. As you get filled your food choices are supposed to be as followed. 75% protein, then good veggies. The band is so different for everyone. But, basically you should watch you should watch your carbs while losing the weight. Some say 30 or less per day.......again lots of thoughts by all on this.

With me and the band I notice that each fill is followed by a period of me going through the trial and error process of eating again. It usually takes me a month.
I was unfilled in August and I shot up 25lbs over 3 months (ish). I was filled right before December and I quit gaining, but I didn't lose much. Now I am filled to the point where I can eat about 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food depending on how "lubed up" the food is. However, i'm not using the tool right because even eating less over the past week I have still put on one pound.
The band is frustrating for me. At times I really love what it has done for me, but I can't seem to make it work (or make myself work it) properly. I'm too scared to go and eat chicken breast and veggies because I know it will just get stuck, and the things I know won't get stuck are bad for you. My weakness is cheese, I have probably had chips and queso 3 times in the last week. i know, that's bad, but I have always someone who eats when stressed and that doesn't go away just because i have a band.
I am at 3.6cc in a 10cc band.

I have only had one fill so far but have had some real wake up calls with this little buddy of mine. Can"t believe how much swelling can happen if I eat too fast or the wrong thing, and have yet to learn about all the ways the tightness of it changes given a stress day or hot, cold, TOM etc... it really changes how I look at food. IN some ways I am so damned pleased to have this little stalker of mine giving me a pull up if I try to get sneaky with how fast I eat but damn I miss not knowing what I was doing sometimes! I am a carb junkie so that is where I have to be really careful. Getting a little taste is like heroin for me LOL One is too many and a 1000 isn't enough as the 12 step folks would say. Hang in there and let us know how you are doing.
Jamie,
Yes, as the band tightens the rules on what you can eat change. You also need to be more conscious on how you eat. Remember that the basis of the band is to reduce your food intake. Potatoes for me are interesting. I can not eat a lot other than mashed which just slide through. In terms of a baker like at Wendy's, I can do about 1/2 of the potato. You ill also notice how the potato is prepared has a lot to do with how much you can eat. Any french fry or hash brown is hard for me to eat. I can but have to do it in moderation.
For me it was bread. I went through a phase where I did not tolerate any bread at all. I thought that was it for bread. Then I discovered that if I was selective on the bread and carefully chewed and digested it that I could have it in moderation. I can eat crusty breads like a baguette. I can not eat any buns at all. A tortilla works that is thin and whole grain. Last night I ate at Panera and had their chpotle chicken on toasted French bread. I did the 1/2 and 1/2. I had no problem with the bread. So, bread needs to be crusty or toasted.
From now on it sounds like you will need to be selective and watch how and how much you eat. I think that is the reality of the band. Once you figure it out, you have some latitude what you can eat.
One thing you have to watch for is being too tight. If you get a lot of indigestion and can hardly eat anything, you have gone too far. And that is not good. The opposite effect takes effect with your body starving, you gain weight.
I think you look great! You seem to be doing well with your band. This is just a bump in the road you need to navigate.
Best of Luck!
