1 month out

It has been 1 month now since I got my RNY gastric bypass surgery. My recovery has been very smooth - but I do feel much more tired and easy fatiqued, probably because my body is adjusting to getting far less calories and food than before.
I was in really, realy bad pain 12-15 hours post-op but strong painkillers managed that and since then I have been doing fine. My tiny incisions have healed perfectly and I am introducing solid foods slowly --- I have to chew everything so well and eat slowly or my stomach do not like it! If I don't chew my food very well - I sometimes burb it up. Not so nice! So gone are the days of mindless eating!
I really find it easier to just puree the food in a blender - and eat the chicken or fish veggie pulp - as I refer to the mix

I get enough fluid (can actually drink pretty fast without any discomfort). I get about 80-90 grams of protein every day - meals are a mix of 60 percent fish or chicken/ 20 percent veggies like spinach/broccoli/red pepper/ carrot and 20 percent brown rice. I eat hot oatmeal porrigde in the mornings with a table spoon of cottage cheese. And I get 2 protein drinks every day - one hot chocolate serving with 19 g of protein and either a sugarfree/fatfree pudding with vanilla protein powder or a little thick protein shake - mixed with 1 oz of date/brown bran. I also drink  a glass of metamucil ... to get enough fibre. Constipation has been a problem - I take milk of magnesia every day and a laxative every other day to be more regular ...

I certainly do not have energy for much and have been addicted to a funny computergame ... (Farmville on FB). I take walks but I feel so little motivation to do my home exercises, because I feel so tired. But I do it - and hope to start working out in the gym next week. I hope I will get more energy soon -  I do get my supplements and have gotten a Vit D and Vit b12 shot. I have not been very active here on the forums for a while.

I hope all of you are doing well? Whether pre-op or post-op. I am happy that I went through with the surgery - I am down 18 pounds (to 255) after this first month and very happy about that - down 52 pounds total since Sep. 14.   So I hope I will continue and become more healthy again when my energy levels goes up again.

Hugs from me

You are doing great!!!!! Your routine sounds just terrific. I am now eight months approximately and it doesget easier. Like you, it has been tough at times but for the most part, if you do exactly as you are told and follow the diet all will go well. I was fatigued and soooo tired for about six weeks after the surgery but that part gets better as well. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!! We are all rooting for you.   Toward the Light........Bliss

Hey Niels!!!   It's great to see you online!  And to hear how well you're doing!  I've not been on OH as often since my surgery either.  I'm having a lot of fatigue also, and I find it takes a certain amount of mental energy to read and post here.  But my energy's picking back up more and more every day, so that's encouraging!

I'm amazed at your protein intake - good for you! I haven't been able to either drink or keep down any of the protein powders or shakes I've tried so far, so am having to get all my protein from food. I've progressed to solids now, so that's gotten a little easier, and with the DS there aren't any food restrictions (no pouch) except to eat low carb to enhance weight loss.  But I've had NO appetite since surgery, so I almost have to force myself to eat - which really makes me laugh considering my eating habits pre-op!!!

I'm down 31 lbs since surgery, 42.5 since August. I can really feel the difference!

I'm so glad things have gone well for you. You've been on my mind often.

Take care!
