Problems with my first fill (lapband)

Yesterday, I went to get my first fill and the doctor couldnt insert the needle into the port hole.  He said there was some scar tissue blocking the entry way.  I am just over 5 weeks post op, he said 6 weeks post op is when they normally give the first fill.  I go back in two weeks to try again and if the needle still will not go in, he will have to go back inside and see whats going on.  Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what was the outcome?  Feeling a little discouraged because I really need the fill since Im eating like before the surgery.

I am sorry about this.  I am not a doctor but I think it could be the port might have flipped as well.   Ask him next time if he has a problem to try and give you a fill a flouro or something.   Also a good way to get a fill is to lay down and arch your back it makes it easier.  I also had a numbing shot for the first two fills.   Good luck to you!

Don't let how much you can eat now discourage you, once you get your 2nd or 3rd fill you will notice a huge difference. I had my first fill 6 weeks out.  I was also discouraged the first week before the fill because I could still down 7 slices of pizza. Once you hit your sweet spot you won't be able to down an entire slice.  Your first year will be all about learning how the band works FOR YOU as a tool.

I am going for my second fill in a couple of weeks. I have heard folks talk about flipped ports on the lap band site. I bet you can get some responses if you post this one over there. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

I have never heard of that problem. I doubt that it is a flipped port since your surgeon would have known  that when he tried to do the fill. My fills were so routine and painless. I haven't had one in a year. Like Big Bear said, these fills are gradual and during the process you can still eat more than you should. Before you know it you will be surprised how much less you can eat and how satisfied you are. Best of luck! Tom from Ohio

Thank you everyone for all your replies and encouragement.  I finally got my fill!  Thank god it didnt flip.  You're right, there is no pain, but dont notice a difference yet.  Everybody says you notice a difference after the second fill, which I cant wait!
