Back home !! Joining the losers ...
I'mmm backkkkk!!!
I just got home. The RNY GBY surgery went fine, but I had terrible pain and stayed an extra
day at the hospital. Yesterday I began feeling better, but was totally beat and tired from the pains
the first day and night. Today I was feeling well enough to go home!
I feel worn out because I tensed up so badly because of the pain - all my muscles in my back, legs and neck - even arms and shoulders hurt. I only had to do clear liquids one day (yesterday) and can move on to full liquids now the next 7 days. (and then mushy/pureed after 8 days). I have been drinking one small 4 oz portion of thin youghurt thinned with milk, water and a 4 oz serving of chocolate protein drink. Yesterday I was able to drink 38 OZ - because I was soooo tired from all the painkillers. I have already been drinking 24 OZ today and it is noon - so I think I will be able to most of my fluids and proteins.
No problems taking pills --- but I do not seem to need the strong narcotic ones so much any more .... maybe 3 times today and hopefully only one or 2 more - days - then tylenol alone should be enough. So I hope I will soon start loosing .... I need to take little nap again. Before I have to get up sipping again ...
Hugs from Niels

Ahhh nice to be back and see the loving kind support from my OH friends
Wow - I am down 8 pounds since Friday. Almost can't believe it! This honeymoon phase is going to be nice. I do not feel hunger as such and I get a 4 oz serving of fluid every hour (changing between clear liquids and full liquids to get enough protein and some energy too). I sleep like a rock and even tolerate sleeeping on both sides if I turn slowly.
I am out walking often and was able to clear my driveway of snow this morning - just took it easy and slowly. I am stil a bit sore - but the 5 incisions look good - and I tolerate the adhesive protection well - and they are very easy to change. I have a small phlebitis in the vein on my hand they used to give me IV fluids and meds - I just apply some neosporin and think it will go away on it own.
Now I just hope I will recover well during the next 3 weeks - At least I can begin to use my stationary bike in one week from now. Until then it truly is a full time job walking, sipping, taking my meds, and getting some naps. until my alarm clock tells me I have to get up and get some fluids again. I plan on increasing the serving size of fluids to 5 oz after 3 weeks - when I should be fully healed. From then serving sizes will depend on feel - but max 6 OZ the first year.
Only time will tell how much weight I loose - but it is nice to finally have the surgery done - and be on the other side. And even though the pain was bad the first 12 hours - I hope it will be worth the effort. And I can be here to support you in reaching your goals too. You sounds great so far! I hope you continue feeling better each day! My friend seems not so ok he's going back to the Dr. Obviously everyones journey is completely unique.
Im scared about the pain honestly so IM glad that you were opne an honest about it...thanks. I remind myself a lot that this is SURGERY...I dont think I could talk myself away from it though ;)

You shouldn't! very few will have the cramping and pain I got. The surgeon did 6 RNY GBY procedures that day - and only 2 of us had to stay an extra day at the hospital. Me because of pain - the other lady because of the anastehetics - she slept almost 8 hours before waking up ... Which is not normal since we only get just the right amount of anasthetics to keep us out during surgery - I was up walking 45 min - after I woke up. 3 hours later the pain/crampings started.
But yes it is major surgery! The abdomen will be a bit tender and sore, and the gas bubbles might give some pain too and the pouch is sensitive the first weeks after. If I did not have the extraordinary amount of pain - I would have thought it was easy. But at least they do have very effective painkillers - and can help you stand the pain. And they know that every person is different - that some will need more than others. It also seems that most in USA get a pain pump - so they can press if they need extra ... but sometimes even that has to be adjusted up or down, so the pain can be managed. I would not let fear of the pain deter you from getting the surgery - the pain of carrying the excess weight will be much greater ....
Sorry to hear your other friend seems to have complications.
But I am home and I am doing well ... and like you say were are unique and most likely it will not be this bad - and it was only for about 12 hours ... sort of like child labor! And it doesn't stop people from having babies - (because it is not the men that have to go through the pain
...).

I've had 2 babies.....both with no pain meds what so ever lol yea it hurt OMG it hurt but I kept telling myself that we were meant to do this and that the pain would end when it was done and so it did... I had very easy recoveries......
However, this is NOT the same as someone cutting me open and messing with my insides....LOL
I cant tell you how the pain compares obviously but Im guessing the surgery is worse it's not natural... who knows.
:) Maybe I'm more chicken now because I am 10 years older then when I had my babies! lol Well, my youngest is 8 actually but still...I feel MUCH older and more brittle LOL

I am sure that giving birth is harder and more painful! I have always respected women more since I have seen some giving birth. Think about it as a rebirth of yourself! The pain did end and could be managed with painkillers (even though losts of it) but then I was and I am fine ... it had to be done. Remember Madonna as the all natural yoga teacher in the movie "The next best thing"? She wanted a natural childbirth - but screamed at the top of her lungs - GIVE ME ALL THE DRUGS YOU GOT!!!!!!
