Do you have rights?
I know there's people here from all over the place and I'm curious about what it's like in your neck of the woods in regards to same-sex coupling.
What is legal in your area? Gay marriage? Domestic Partnership? Something else?
Hopefully you are surrounded by love,
danni

WOW Danni what a topic to talk about and something I'm sure we could all talk about for hours on end.
I've been very lucky to live in a country where Same Sex marriage is legal everywhere!
It's the most amazing feeling too!
Toronto and Vancouver Ontario, Canada are probably the most excepting and versatile places to live when you are gay. There are gay communities and there are very few people in those large cities that judge. I remember walking down hand in hand with my girlfriend at the time on 'Church Street' in Toronto. Church Street is where most of the gay bars are and social networks. People are just naturally more loving and accepting of 'US' in these cities. The bigger the city the more accepting.
I cannot imagine being in some of the States and wanting to marry my partner and not being able to. Sure it's just a ring some people may say and a status. I think it's so much more. The right to have the same rights as straight couples who get married. I could go on for hours about this because I once moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia for work and had the chance to live and work there permanently but I made the choice not to because I couldn't move my Canadian girlfriend with me into the states and have the same rights as a straight couple.
I SAY move you and your girlfriend to CANADA! lol GET MARRIED HERE! LIVE YOUR LIFE (as Rhianna would say) in Canada. I know its not that easy but CANADA loves and supports Gay rights! We support Gay Marriage, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transexuals, Straight couples, EVERYTHING!
What are your thoughts on it Danni? I'm sure it must be hard where you live. Which state do you live in anyways? How many states legalized gay marriage?

I went to college for a time in Montreal and I fell in love with Canada. My partner and I are seriously considering moving to Ottawa in the next few years providing that we can get citizenship!
I live in CA and we can't get married here. It kills me that I am a second class citizen in my own country. I'm a fourth generation Californian (which is rare) and yet a criminal has more rights than I do. It's just so infuriating!!
We can get "domestic partnership" which is better than nothing- but not by much....

Awesome, Yeah Montreal and Ottawa are a few of the other cities that are great to live as openly gay women! I'm not sure how you would go about getting a citizenship but you should get it started now, why wait.
California... thats so sad isn't that the state where Ellen got married in when it was legal for a few months? What happens to the people that were married when it was legal and now can no longer get married? Is their marriage still considered bonified.
Criminals shouldn't have any rights in my eyes but thats only because of where I work! I can see your point totally.
Come one come all AMERICAN homosexuals!
Just a side note...I that your name meant Inspector...until I read it more carefully and seen the blurb at the top of your page.

Inspector...hehe...that's funny, nope it's short for Inked Special Ed. Teacher, sorry for the confusion
The people that got married during the few months of legality are still legally married, as well as others married in other states- but no other same-sex couples can be married. So, I have some friends that made the cut along with Ellen- but I have others who didn't, it's so sad.
Oh and I went to McGill- I can't wait to visit MTL again!!!

Amen, Sharyn :)
I live in MA too. My wife and I got married eight years ago, and then when it became legal 5 yrs ago. Our first marriage, though "not legal" was what we consider our "real" one. It is really great to be married though. We have a son and it makes it a lot easier when it comes to dealing with parental rights, etc. We still did all of the legal work just in case, though.
MA is pretty great for GLBT couples...not that you dont encounter ignorance, but it is not the norm at all. My wife and I work and teach together in a large public school in the city and we love it here.
