Gingerbread and Eggnog Post RNY
Hey Folks! I posted this on the main board but am reposting here because I you folks for some good responses more than the main page. Hey, if you can't go to "family", who can you go to?
Last Christmas season I was only out one month from my RNY and didn't have to deal with any temptations. This year I imagine things will be a little different. While I think I can resist the candy and most of the baked goods one thing I KNOW I'll be missing will be egg nog and gingerbread.
Does anyone have any recipes for substitutes, or suggestions for other things to have instead of those?
I'm one of those people that doesn't dump, so I'm looking for something to help shore up my willpower and provide a safe distraction.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Don, do you cook at all? I make a pumpkin protein shake that I love with vanilla protein powder and non fat milk. I would bet you could do something like that. Also there is the nonfat no sugar egg nog pudding isn't there?
But you could probably adjust a gingerbread recipe...change sugar and fat, that would be great. Another option is to try a diabetic cookbook, might have some good recipes. I can get by with alittle bit without dumping but I get this thing where I get really sleepy if I eat too many carbs, so have to really balance with protein and fiber.
One thing that has helped me some is the idea that the most potent flavors (or eating experience) is in the first 3 bites (after that your taste buds adjust). So that has helped me to only take a bite (a slow bite) of something and really enjoy it. Savor it....slowly....it can be satisfying.
Let us know what else you come up with!

Good advice! I've found not taking a plate with me anywhere helps and camping out on the far side of the room from the goodies. I don't want people to see me going back and forth to the snack table with handfuls of stuff, so I slow down, take one bit of food and cross back to the far side of the room. Slows me down LOTS, cause I keep thinking "didn't I just come back from that table?"
Thanks!
Thanks!
