I am about 3 months post surgery and I have started having an absolutely horrible taste in my mouth that lasts no matter what I eat, or how much I brush my teeth. mouthwash and mints don't help eaither.  Has anyone else had this problem?  What could the cause be?

I have heard folks on these boards discuss ketosis and the change in breath, body odor as well as taste in mouth. Anybody out there have any cures?

I HATED "dradon breath". What helped me was I used a tongue scraper and that helped with some of it.

Ok guys I have done quite a bit of asking about this problem today.  I got in touch with the surgeon office and they said that it is a zinc deficiency an to take 25mg of zinc daily and to drink more water.  So I will give it a try and let you know

I'm just curious what kind of taste it is??  I have had a taste in my mouth like I have gargled with peroxide and it started right at a week ago and my surgery was 9/23/09.  Let me know and I may have to start taking some Zinc too.

The best way I can describe it was metalic.  I said to people it tasted like I had a piece of  foil in my mouth at all times.  The taste was strong and kind of made me a little sick.    I could still taste it even ovet the taste of food.  I checked with people who would tell me the truth and I was told it was not bad breath, it was just in my mouth.  My father is a dentist and he checked with some other dentists, they agreed it was likely the zinc.  The doctor recommended 25 mg but the pharmacist said a good dose was 50mg.  I could only find 50 mg tablets.  For the first week I took the 50 and when the taste went away ( a little over 48 hours later) I broke the tablets in 1/2.  The zinc is not at all expensive and won't hurt you to take it so I recommend giving it a shot.  I was looking at your weight loss and you are one month behind me and have already lost more weight.  That is awesome!!  Just make sure you are drinking enough water and still having some carbs in your diet.  The reason I say this is that if it is not the zinc it could be ketosis.  Good luck let me know if this works for you as well.  We are almost exactly the same time from surgery when my bad taste started.....so glad to say it is all gone now!
