Behavior Modification Issues

Here's the deal. When I'm at home and away from the job I have no problem with boredom eating, snacking and the like. However, when I'm at work... well... I bring food with me and graze on it all night long. Granted, it's about 400 calories worth of protein or fruit grazing but it's still annoying. I try to focus on setting times to eat, like 11pm and 5am. But sometimes, I fail. Has anyone had this problem and found a way to work around it.

For those of you not familiar with my job. I work nights as a paramedic. I'm stuck in an ambulance for 12 hours a shift and sometimes there isn't anything to do except homework or surf the net.

Ideas, suggestions?

When I was working I found that I was eating all the time.  My co workers would laugh at me.  They said that I had surgery and shouldn't eat at all.  I couldn't help myself.  I think I ate out of nervousness or boredom.  At least it was healthy food and not junk.  I still coninued to lose weight and feel good.  Sometimes I think that it is better on my stomach to eat several times in small amounts (grazing)  I seem to digest it better.  I wish that I could give you some suggestions as to what to do with you time while in the ambulance but I am not sure what you like to do.  You need to find something to keep you hands busy. (it will also take your mind off of the grazing)  Good luck and keep up your weight loss.

Wish I had good advice for you.  I'm the same way - I'm a saint at home, a sinner at the office.  Bored, I tend to pick at the food I bring about every 2 or 3 hours - that makes 2 snacks and a meal during the 8 to 10 hours I'm at work.  To make things worse, the office keeps a well stocked kitchenette - so I sometimes sneak a handful of wheat thins or, god help me, an oreo.

Trying to resist by sheer willpower, or giving in and eating the diet-friendly food I bring more often so I don't pick at the non-diet friendly office stuff.  Helps a bit, and I'm still losing, so I suppose things could be worse.

dealing with the same issues...  I still have grazing issues.   I've switched to coffee... when I'm hungry I drink a cup of coffee and the jolt of coffee seems to tame my hunger
not sure how long this will last... but it's working as of now.
I can't keep anything snacky in the house... If I really need to I try to snack on turkey or cheese if anything  (Trying to break my carb addiction)

Me too . . . I seem to be eating small amounts (albeit good food and portions ) all the time.  I am back to craving and almost obsessing about food.  Some of the late afternoon "starvation" is back.  Work is the worst.

Is it the worst habit in the world if we make good choices and track?
