18 months out and gaining
Hey Rod -
Keep breathing! This is part of the process, and 18 months out you're still in the thick of things. It's okay, as long as you take action to correct it.
First off:
1> Monitor your food. Get back to the basics on this one. Make sure you're getting in the appropriate amount of protein (80 grams for most people) and all your liquid in every day. 64 oz of water is supposed to be the average amount of liquid.
2> It's ok to replace a meal with a shake every now and then, but don't go overboard - nothing is a good subsititute for real food.
3> Elminate all white carbs (sugar, potatos, white breads, rice, etc) for a little while. Concentrate on proteins, veggies, fruits and then top off your meals with just a little starch like sweet potatos and whole grains. Its ok to have a little more starch before a workout, but it still should be a maximum of 25% of your meal, and only eaten after all your protein and veg.
4> Journal your food, as mentioned in earlier posts.
5> Try changing up your excercise routines just to try something new. Do you usually run or walk? Try swimming, biking or elliptical machines. Usually do elliptical? Try walking, aerobics, etc.
6> Don't panic! This is part of the process - learning to KEEP off the weight may be as hard as getting it off was in the first place, but the fact that you got it off is proof that keeping it off is possible. Don't beat yourself up over an upsurge - this too shall pass.
Hang in there, bud!

Hi Rod,
Just like everyone has said so far... Expect about 20 pounds re gain.. But NIP IT IN THE BUD!!
I have a really excellent food plan I have been following that is really helping. I regaind 10, and it has stopped there...
Let me know if you want it. It is amounts and types of foods to eat that follow the plan the gentlemen before em suggested.
I have found a new way of life that has kept me at Goal since 2008.. And keeping it that way!
I had heard about a 10 pound regain...never 20 and what is the regain from...the body adjusting or folks going back to their old habits?
I thought I heard ten from the body adjusting and we need to adjust to maintanence. I am 18 months out and am still trying to maintain my current weight and not lose more. Had some stress and first thing is the weight drops... I am below goal and figure if I get back up ten pounds I would be okay....pants may not fit but...Now if I could put the ten pounds back where I would like it to be that would be great! "The girls" just will never be the same!
