My Boss has a real conversation with me
My Boss has a real conversation with me for the first time in 12 years of working for him.
Yes, as amazing as that sounds. I haven’t seen Mr. Boss (or should I say Dr. Boss) since well before my surgery. Since then, I have lost about 50 lbs. Well, Dr. Boss made a surprise appearance in my clinic yesterday and the first thing he says is “you look really good." To which, I boldly respond “thank you." Now, normally, I would make some self deprecating remark, but I’m working on that. He proceeds to actually take the time that he has never taken in all these years to actually have a somewhat normal (well, normal for him anyway) conversation with me.
My first reaction is to just get really pissed off. Pissed off because I am the same person that I was when I was 50 lbs fatter and he couldn’t take the time to bother to chat with a really fat person. Much too degrading for him. Doesn’t do well for the public’s impression and all. Then, I finally relaxed into it and reasoned with myself that all of these other skinny, straight, attractive, female colleagues have been working their magic on him for all of these years and I should just accept it, move on, and come to the realization that he’s just going to be more cordial with me now. Does this mean I should hate him less or more?
So, is this a non-scale victory (NSV)? …or just another good reason to work out tonight and expel some of that Dr. Boss anger I’ve been storing away for all of these years?
Oh, and yes, I have lost 50 lbs!!!!!
I don't think you should hate him any more or less- he sounds pretty typical. There are many people who have deep seeded prejudices that most times they are unaware of. You can point this out, and make a huge "thang" out of it, or like you did, just accept it and enjoy the conversation.
Keep up the great work!
