 Hi Family,

I posted on the main board ...I just returned from a 4 day cruise and I'm only 4 weeks out of RNY surgery.  It was a remarkable experience and great cruise.  I went on my own.  The first person I met and became fast friends with was a woman who was 2 years out of RNY surgery.  It was awesome to have my own personal angle.  But what was really fun on this cruise was that every night, the cruise line had a place for family to meet.  It was the Friends of Dorothy meet and great.  It was really fun.  Just to find a few family amongst the straight!  What was even more interesting was that there were several who didn't know what "Friends of Dorothy" was all about.   If you decide to go on a regular cruise...keep your eyes open...there is family everywhere.

How difficult was it to get your protein in on a cruise? I live in Fort Lauderdale and we have been thinking of going on a cruise but I am scared it will be to challenging.

Just curious

I was really, really scared before going as I'm only 5 weeks out of surgery.  But it wasn't difficult at all.  I was on Carnival and they have something lowfat, lowcal every meal.  I ate weigh more chicken then I wanted too...but it was the best option.  I stuck with 3 meals a day only.  Nothing to drink bu****er.  That was probably the hardest part....by the last day of the cruise I really wanted to party with everyone, but it was just too early for alcohol.  I think it was harder to stay hydrated then to get my protein.

Also, the folks from Benefiber are now making BeneProtein. http://www.beneprotein.net/

They sell it by bulk or in packets.  I added this to cream of wheat and yogurt to boost protein.  Its unflavored and doesn't get in the way of the food.

Go on the cruise!  You've earned it after everything you have been through. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

My partner and I have been on 18 cruises and it has never been hard to get protein. There are always great choices. You do have to stay away from the slippery areas (desserts) although there were sugar free choices there too.
