Got a surgery date! Advice WELCOME!
This morning I got the call: surgery is set for Monday, September 28th. It is a weird feeling after 7 months of the off-again on-again roller coaster. Something tells me the real ride is yet to come!
Any advice for living life in the weeks before surgery? For my post-surg friends: what would you do differently pre-surg if you could do it over?
Thanks for all your input and well wishes!

Congratulations on your surgery date. Mine is also scheduled for September 28th, I'm excited and scared all at once. Yes the ride is yet to come. I think we really do not realize what massive changes we will have to make in order to be successful. Support is crucial to your success also.
I have been attempting to remodify my lifestyle the last several months. It's not been easy and will continue to be a challenge until I feel comfortable with it. All in time. One piece of advice that my physician's nurse gave me is that you cannot expect everything to change all at once. You will have to work at it daily one step at a time.
I'm already drinking protein shakes, cutting down on my caffiene. But the one thing I am really finding a challenge is learning how to eat again. Chewing my food longer, taking smaller bites, eating slower. I know this will be my biggest challenge, but it's necessary so after surgery I do not hurt myself or the pouch.
Each individual has their own personal challenge, but the key is to stay positive, make an honest effort to make those changes starting right now. You will better off when the ride begins after surgery.
Good Luck!

My advice - practice the eating/drinking "rules" pre-surgery. Sipping, chewing well and eating slowly are really hard! Also, try out separating eating and drinking at restaurants - still a big challenge for me. I find it particularly hard after spending a day out and about. I am always hungry and thirsty even if I've had water etc. with me throughout the day.
September is a great month for surgery!

i think the best thing you can do at this point is to go to a mostly liquid diet......drink all day and have a SMALL meal at night......you'll lose weight prior to surgery and this will help re-wire your brain for what's about to come after surgery. it's the best thing i ever did pre-op. i was on a mostly liquid diet for over a year prior to surgery and it really helped me afterwards. now once you have surgery, you will HAVE NO HUNGER at all so it will be easy, but the BRAIN still craves certain bad foods. luckily for me, I totally lost my sweet tooth after surgery and so sugary things haven't been a problem for me to stay away from because i dump on sugar still. it is so important to get your head wrapped around what you're about to go through.
Listen to everything Dr. A and Lois tells you. I would still eat one last meal at Uno's cause I can't eat their yummy pizza. Also, remember that the end of eating is not happening. You can still eat and eat your favs just healthier versions and smaller amounts. I wish I would have realized this before cause I wouldn't have been so gung ho on the last meal thing.
