Don's Newest article: The Cost of Weight Loss
Don, your article is great. Thanks for sharing. I feel like I spend a good portion of money on vitamins, a good guess may be $80-$100 a month. I also buy my protein powder only when it is on sale (still $44 for the big container). I buy protein bars, about $60 dollars a month. I also have gotten cod liver oil a few times (spendy stuff) but I do think it helps with my skin and hair.
Now that doesn't count the food. The above supplement my diet so I can get enough protein in. But I buy red meat a few times a week and chicken also. I will say that I rarely eat fast food and if I go out to a resturant I generally save some of it for the next day.
But one of my biggest expenses was PS....I had insurance coverage and my WLS only cost me $950 out of pocket. But my PS, after care from complications, and my counseling to stay on track....did really add up.
But I do feel overall more healthy now, and am off all prescription meds for comorbidities.
The only thing I take issue with (but I know it is true) is the nut statement. Not because I haven't met Nuts like that (although my sister is way overweight and she is one) but because now I get treated differently because of how I look. People are shocked to think I was ever overweight...and they treat me like having a lightweight now means I don't understand any of the things they are going through.
You have lost alot of weight, how has this impacted your body image? Is that going to be a topic for your column? I would be interested to read it. Thanks for sharing!
