TMI Question?

So at this point ...what was working for me, isn't anymore. I was able to take 2-3 Benefiber chews a day and I was all set.

I really don't want to live on stool softeners and laxatives.

So, what is everyone taking? I'm tired of not being able to go ...or being so 'backed up' that it hurts like hell and I'm on the toilet crying.

Well... Not sure what to tell you.
I only had issues about a few months out from surgery.  My surgery center told me to put the Benifiber powder in some type of fluid and drink that twice a day.  I did that for about 2 months, and now do not have any issues.

I know that you said that you are taking the chews, and forgive me but I'm not sure what the fibor content is, but you may want to try to get in some more natural fibor into your diet.  Fresh fruit, whole grains, etc.

Best suggestion is to contact your surgen or doctor's office, maybe they can help out...

Wish I could provide some more information, like something magical!

Miralax every so often works for me.  Extra coffee works too . . .

I just spoke to my surgeon about this yesterday!

2 things to try:
1> If you're taking fiber tablets, up your water intake a LOT.  You'll need it for it to work.
2> Try Miralax.  I haven't, yet, but they suggested it as the next step up from benefiber.

I know how you feel, gorgeous.  This sucks, but...if you'll forgive the awful pun...

"...this, too, shall pass."

Brooke -
totally hear ya honey.    I cried for 2 weeks.  I finally found a "routine", after consulting with my doctor-

I increased my fluid intake to 100oz/day min.
Alternate Benefiber with Miralax daily
1 - 2 good size prunes ( I like the individually wrapped Sunsweet ones) per day

Good luck -  If it is really painful, call the doctor - they can prescribe a suppository which also has a analgesic and pain reliever in it - These are nice to have in the medicine cabinet for the really bad times.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone! I have an appt with them next week - my 15 month check up - so I'll bring it up then. Last time they told me to do the Miralax and that takes some planning!!! lol. I have a thing with using public bathrooms so I'll do the Miralax if I know I don't have to go anywhere far from home. And that stuff is so gross. That was what we had to do for our bowel prep before surgery and that is the awful, yucky taste I get. I guess it beats having painful bathroom issues........

Well i think you know what I do Brooke LOL  for me it works wonders but I don't know if you wanna go through all that.  fiber supplements have absolutely no effect on me at all.  so I go for the SF chocolate.  two servings and I'm runnin.....literally LOL

Sorry, haven't really had any issues with this since got off the pain medication (that stuff will make you **** bricks!).

I do have fruit everyday and sometimes prunes...and do try to drink water. Hopefully you will get regular soon and not have to take anything on a daily basis...what a pain!
