Feeling full!

So the strangest thing has been plaguing me lately. So I eat about 1/2 a cup of the desired meal and I feel full. Then I get the guilty feeling! And no I'm not feeling guilty for eating food.

I think the reason I feel guilty is because before the surgery when I would feel full I would realize that I just ate way too much to feel that way.

I'm going to really have to try to get over that because for the last week or so I keep feeling guilty when I feel full as if I've done something bad but I haven't.

Does this even make sense? Has anyone else experienced this before?

Cheers!

YES! I know what you mean. It's a weird feeling. I feel so full that I feel like there is no way I'm going to lose weight for that day, even though I know I ate how I was supposed to. I guess I associate it with the times preop that I went to a buffet or ate a large portion of something.

Hey Kevin,
i have the same things, depends how dense the food is that i am eating.  If i eat creamy, soft foods, eg. yogart, cottage cheese, i can eat more,  if i eat chicken or steak, and have to chew and chew, i can only eat appro 1/2 cup.  it may be the type of food and the signals the chewing sends to the brain....  zac

I want phentermine so I feel full all the time

the whole subject of fullness ****** me off because it's so hit or miss with me :-(

I can eat chicken one day and BAM stuffed
Next day, same chicken... still hungry

slider foods never make me hungry

I AM finding that protein shakes.... a freakin liquid shake!  will make me full (WTF IS THAT ALL ABOUT???)

Don't feel guilty, feel happy!  (unless you're feeling guilty about having food left on your plate... I run into that all the time and have to learn not to take so much.

Tony,

I'm sure you know phentermime won't make you feel full all the time. My surgery is different than yours. My surgery focused around restriction and yours was about malabsorption.

The deal about protein shakes has every thing to do with the protein and not the drink itself.

My surgeon told me that with VSG I would get that "true" full feeling and it would last longer as long as I didn't drink during or immediately after eating.

So comparing me to you surgically is like apples and oranges.

I feel guilty about a lot of food stuff, wasting food, feeling full because the only time I felt that before was when I ate a lot, or when I over eat now and have to vomit... It's very psychologically trying.

I always forget you had VSG

mines the exact opposite... I feel guilty if I eat to much (ie more than 1/4 or 1/2 cup)  around co workers because they spazz out because my stomach is suppose to be the size of my thumb.
Surgeons office says it's because the nerves are still severed... find that hard to believe at times

Tony,

I couldn't agree more it is so hit or miss
Last week went to visit family at 2 different barbques one around lunch time and one at 6 during the lunchtime one I couldn't eat anything and everything I did came around for a second time(chicken, veggies pasta salad, reg salad) at dinner time we had steak, mushrooms, onions and potatoes and drinks it seemed like everything and I mean everything was not even close to making me full and then for the last 2 days until about 2 hours ago everything including plain fluids came back for a reuion

feeling full is a GREAT thing!  even if there's food on your plate....just scrape it off into a container and save it for your next meal or whatever.  tonight I had a chipless taco salad, I ate half of it and was indeed FULL.......so I have a meal for tomorrow :) feeling full vs. finishing what's on your plate is something that had been instilled in us since we were children (remember mom or dad telling us to clean our plate?).  Well we DON'T have to clean our plates anymore and we're healthier for that :)  I'm as guilty as the next person to have eyes bigger than my stomach but when you're full....you need to stop.  Witht he VSG I'm not sure if you get any body signals that you're full other than the full feeling but i know it's common with RNY that we get the hiccups.......the first hiccup i get, i stop.

Ugh.. I understand more than I want to.. That "full" feeling always triggered my bulimia. I now have to sit and tell myself, that full now is NOT what full was then. In fact the hardest part of this surgery has been the psycological part for me. I mind screwed myself so bad over the last 38 years, it is very hard to break.

Let me know if you find a way to work through it. Till then I am taking it day by day.
I have found a new way of life that has kept me at Goal since 2008.. And keeping it that way!
