New here - questions for the boys

Hello all, thought that I would venture out from the TN board for more specific men stuff...

I'm currently at or lust below goal -  trying to maintain, but still losing, abeit not much.
I started out at 363lbs last year at my highest, today at 195.

Doc told me to stop losing.  Trying really hard, but still losing!  Never thought that I would have that issue!

I struggle to get in my calories everyday, about 1600 with workouts 3 times a week.  Someones I feel like I'm eating bad, but everyone says no.  Sometimes I may have a few chips with my 1/2 sandwich (if I eat a sandwich for lunch).  Made on whole wheat bread, no mayo, just lean ham, cheese and veggies.  I will have a protein bar before going to the gym because I go after work in the afternoon and if I did not eat something between lunch and dinner before the gym, I would most likely pass out.

I was also told by my bariatric nurse turned friend that when I get coffee at Starbucks that I need to get the Soy milk instead of the skim because I NEED THE CALORIES!

So any advice from you guys about what to do?

A sample meal today:

Breakfast:
Kroger Carbmaster yogurt (for those that don't know BEST yogurt for WLS patiets RNY)
80cal, 3g sugar, 3g carbs, 12g protein
(sometimes) Grande soy sugar free Cinnamon Dolce Latte
about 180 cal
Sometimes I will have a mid morning snack of either a yogurt, protein product of some sort (Kay's naturals cereal, etc)

Lunch:
1/2 sandwich on wheatberry bread (one slice bread about 90 cal and 15g carbs)
lean ham or turkey
slice cheddar cheese
lettuce and tomato and pickles
1/3 bag of normal chips (sometimes dont even make it there, or only eat a few, few chips that is, not a few bags!)
Hunts sugar free pudding about an hour after lunch

Afternoon snack:
if going to gym - Pure Protein bar or Carbmaster yogurt

Dinner:
some sort of lean mean i.e. Chicken, meatloaf, or even some soup.
usually a side of green beans, or brocolli

then I get in all my fluids for the day, either with crystal lite/water or a mixture of each.

I get about 1200-1600 calories, never more than that tho, and if I get close to the 1600 I feel guilty because I feel as if I've eaten too much for the day.

Also what is the normal amount of carbs that we would need per day working out or a normal basis?  I'm getting about 100g per day.  Some say that is too much, but most say that is not enough with my activity level.

PS - also having self confidence issues, but that is because I've "hidden" behind the fat most of my life, but that is for another post!

Thanks for any information you all can provide!!

I'm kind of in the same situation myself. I was told to start snacking on cashews during the day because I'm not getting enough fat in my diet. I am also running 5 days a week and weightlifting 4-5 days a week.

<---not a boy lol ...but I was told to stop losing when I hit 145 now for the last 9 months I've gained and lost the same 3 pounds, which is good. I was told to UP the good fats like nuts, seafood, etc. Cheese sticks have become a good friend lol. I try to eat just a little more than usual ...so that I maintain the weight and not lose or gain!

Hey, there.  Where in Tennessee are you from?  I'm originally from Huntsville, Alabama.

No one ever told me to stop losing, so I figure that I'll just keep going until I stop.  I carry being really thin pretty well and am hardly ever described as "too skinny" anymore.

Great job on the weight loss.  Keep it up.

Cheers,

Chris

oh I could just hug you!

You basically listed my daily food routine... but I'm 6 months out and I stay away from chips only because I eat oatmeal.

But that's my intake at 6 months out!  and that REALLY scares me... (but I'm also 6'8" and like a broken record I'm always told I need all that)

I dropped 150 lbs like wildfire and then bam... stall for 2-3 months of slow weight loss.

nerve racking

I was told 100 grams of carbs is perfect for where I am, so 100 for you must be less than what you should intake.

I was also told 30 30 40
30 Carbs
30 Fat
40 Protein
(percent wise of daily intake)

Self confidence issues?  I'm slumping into that right now... I was on the top of the world when the weight kept falling off and I was constantly buying clothes... but now I'm back to feeling bad even though I've gone from a 60 waist to a 44 waist and a 5xlt to an XLT

you're not alone

Thanks all, somewhat helpful.

Prob the best option is to have an in depth discussion with the NUT at the doctor's office.  That way we can make sure that I'm doing what I need to be doing, and make sure that I do not fall into old habits, or worse start gaining!

I am 14 months out, told I am at goal but I am still losing. I started out @ 310# I am now @ 168. I am pretty OCD about my food.
B:
Banabread weightloss oatmeal w/scoop of protein powder, 1/2 cup of granola, 1/2 cup blueberries
L:
Zone Protein bar, and one Acheive One protein drink
S:
Zone Protein Bar or protein cookie that I make
D
1/2 cup of chicken or tofu product
1/3 cup steamed vegetable
S:
Protein drink

I exercixe 3-4 times per week, get in my fluids, I think I am between 1200-1400 kcal per day. I am not comfortable increasing it.

I am down to size "M" shirt and size 30-32 pants

Not a guy either but are you tracking your protein? I try to get 80=120 a day especially when working out. Also I do nuts and codliver oil when I start getting too low in my weight...the oil and protein really help the hair and skin...

One of the weight lifting books I am reading and my friends who are doing tris say a gram of protein for each pound of weight....

Anyway I do cottage cheese instead of yougurt, more protein. Keep your intake of what you need up and don't fill up on stuff with carbs...I only do bread occasionally...best of luck!!
