Hello I'm another Newby.  I really don't know what to say, other than I am in the process of my evaluations for my weight loss surgery.  I'll be having a Laproscopic hand assisted Bypass.  My surgeon is George Kerlakian.  I've only met him one time, but I've done my research and I'm ready to do this.

Hopefully I'll be scheduled for surgery within the next couple of months.  I have CCHMC Humana Elite so I already know that my surgery will be authorized.

I'm looking for support and an Angel....  I live in Cincinnati Ohio. And I'm looking forward to a new life!

Welcome! You'll get a lot of support here. I actually used to live in your neck of the woods a hundred years ago - Cheviot, actually. Of course that was way back when I thought I knew everything LOL

Wonderful thank you for your response!

I have lots of questions, but mostly to members who've had a RNY laprascopic hand assisted.  I understand that this technique is kind of new and that the recovery is similar to the lap RNY.

I would like to hear from people who've had either the Open RNY or the hand assisted Lap RNY to hear their experiences.  I chose this process because of my family history.  I have a strong family history of adenocarcinoma of the small intestine.  My mom had it and her aunts. I feel having this type of procedure gives the surgeon an advantage to review the small bowel during the surgery and biopsy or remove anything suspicious. If you would like to share your experience with me that would be great!

Today I'm going for my dietician and exercise evaluation.  I've already had my psych eval and passed it.  Next Tuesday I have to see a cardiologist for clearance.  That is my main concern.  I haven't had an EKG in years and hopefully that will be fine.  I'm just not sure what they will do during the visit.

Wish me luck

Good luck to you. I had open RNY. Recovery wasn't too bad. My biggest problem was my addhesive allergy. I turned bright red where my steri-strips were and it took forever for the marks to fade where I had pulled them off.

Side note: I used to live up the road from you in Dayton. Then I got stoopid and moved to CT for my hubby. He has lived here most of his life so I moved here. UGH!

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
