10 days out
Hi All,
I haven't posted since my surgery. I wanted to say thanks for the encouragement, prayers and thoughts! Everyone is so supportive here. I had my surgery on July 7 and went home on July 8. All was going well until July 10 when I was having issues getting food down. After a call to the doctor and some milk of magnesia I was able to eat again. All was going well until Tuesday night when I visited the bathroom several times and didn't make it a few times (yuch)! Wednesday was much the same, so again I called the doctor, more blood tests, stool specimens. I'm better now, but still not back to normal. Maybe this is normal after surgery, I hope not. I'd hate to have to wear a depends on a long bike ride. :) I'm still on liquid protein until after my doctor's appointment on the 22nd. I'm tired of the supplements and was very tempted today to try something on my own, but it's 11:52pm and I made it through the day without breaking the rules. I was so close to eating a cheap oatmeal cookie, thankfully when I got it close to my mouth my dog's big brown eyes were looking at me, so he got half and the other half I threw in the toilet. I really don't want sweets, I want a piece of meat and a salad. I'm guessing it's going to be a while before I get that. All I keep hearing is cottage cheese, I guess I'll starve because I can't stand the taste or the texture of cottage cheese. Oh well, life goes on and people are already noticing the weight loss. I'm trying to keep my sense of humor through it all. Sometimes you have a choice between laughing and crying, I usually pick the laughing. It leaves me feeling better. Well it's bed time, so thanks for reading my woes and accomplishments. Tomorrow will be a new day and things will look better because I stayed on track today!
Good Night All!
Greg

Hi Greg,
I'm not well versed with the RNY, but you are only a couple of weeks out of surgery, so I your body is healing and adjusting. It sucks when we don't feel well though. I'm glad to see that you have a sense of humor. I think that's what carries us through the hard times. Please keep hanging in there friend. And you are so right, tomorrow is another day - taking it a day at a time is not a cliche, it's just true! Hope your day is super tomorrow!

Hi Greg
Hang in there my friend. Spoke with my surgeon about having to eat cottage cheese (I think it has to be one of the most revolting things to have to eat). He recommended that I scramble an egg really loosely and add either low grated fat cheese or ricotta cheese (which I can stomach) and season it to suit.
Thanks for the honesty. Heading in for surgery in less than a week now and want to be prepared as possible and know all the pitfalls that may present themselves during that post-op period.

Hi Greg, Props to you for sharing some of the unpleasantries that can go along with surgery. It is important to express the good with the bad and its important for us to all hear the good with the bad. I just want you to know, that the one little decision to not eat the cookie, is an accomplishment to be proud of. Best of luck and keep us posted.
Here are some things that got me through the first few months...
Can of chicken, some FF Cream Cheese, some FF Greek Yogurt, Blue Cheese
throw that all in a blender, puree up.
Toss it in an oven dish and heat up.
I ate it plain... 1/4 cup at a time.
I've mixed in some refried beans too.
16 oz small curd FF Cottage Cheese, 1 tub of SF Cool Whip, 1 can splenda no syrup pinapple chunks (drained), 1 small pack of SF jello. mix that all up and throw in the fridge for an hour.
GOOD stuff... gets rid of the sweet tooth
If you have a kroger, try their carbmaster yogurt. (really good stuff)
The first 3 months fly by IMHO... you really want to be as strict as possible during that time... the weight flies off the fastest during that window.
Good luck!!! Congratz!!!!
