Hi Everyone...Amanda here....I am 2 weeks out and have gained some weight...only 1/2 pound but stilll.  Also, I am having some trouble with constipation.  Any suggestions.   I am not vomiting..just feel a little "full" and have not been able to consume the amt of protein I am to have daily.  HELP!!

I left the hospital 14 pounds heavier ...I'm pretty sure your 1/2 pound is ok haha!

It's ok to feel full QUICK. Just don't pu****! Because puking sucks big time!!! Do the best you can and take it from there.

You can take benefiber chewables. Or if it's really bad ask your doctor. Mine said to take Miralax or dulcolax. Both work!

Good luck!!

I also left the hospital 6 lbs heavier than I went in..thanks to gas and IV fluids...I am just concerned that my appetite is waning and not sure how I am supposed to be feeling!!

Well we know you're not eating a whole lot... So thats not the problem.. You do get lots of fluids while in the hospital I know for me it took maybe about two to three weeks to pass all of that.. But, I did notice is that your body does kind of do a readjustment after surgery and it will do it again. Dont worry about the .5 pound....  As long as you're doing what you're instructed you should start heading in the right direction soon... Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting in the protein goal is REALLY hard over the first month or so.  Don't worry about it too much - just do your best, don't OVER eat, and know that it's okay to spread it out over the course of the day.

This, too, shall pass.

Especially if you take your benefiber.

I found Miralax easier to deal with than Dulcolax.  I wonder if the fullness is secondary to constipation.  Try your best with the protein; it gets easier.

OH and this board in particular were my best references too.  I too found that I needed more support than I would have guessed before surgery.  I had so many small questions and concerns particularly in the first few months - complications, discomforts, food options, food ideas, normal progression, reasonable and unreasonable expectations.  I am not a long-time pro but heading towards a year - ask away!

I have lots of questions and this surprises me as I ma a registered nurse who did lots of research and talked to lots of people about their surgery.  What I have found out is that I KNOW NOTHING!!  And that everyday is new to me...what a wonderful thing!!
