Thank you to all on this board who has replied and shared your experience.
HI,
As i narrow my search down to two surgeons, Dr Aceves and Dr Alvarez both in Mexico, i had my first discussion with Susan the coordinator from Dr Alvarez's office.
I am both excited and scared. Seems many folks have shared the same concerns. I am ready, ready to let go of this 100+ extra weight . I am ready to feel good again, more energy, less depression, better health, NEW CLOTHES (actually all the old sizes i have been saving for just in case....just in case is coming.
thanks to all who continue to give me advice, share your experience and support.
Zac

As usual I'm late to the tea party... Look into this surgeon. I see his name quite a bit, and the folks I know who have had him have awesome things to say about him.

I know that feeling of enthusiasm! Now that you're ready to go, be sure that you know everything you need to:
1> Post surgery eating plan (during recovery and after)
2> Post surgery supplement plan
3> Be ready to start your new excercise plan after surgery. This is one you'll need to stick with for life! REALLY important, don't let this slide.
4> Prep everything you'll need in your home (or wherever you'll be recovering) before hand. Make sure you have a variety of protein shakes, as your taste buds may change a LOT right after the surgery.
Don't let your enthusiasm get in the way of asking every question and preparing for every eventuality.
And bring slippers to the hospital. ones you don't need to bend over to put on. Trust me, I'm grateful for them.

I recommed doing a taste test beforehand. I had a protein shake tasting with friends - filled up bunches of shot glasses, and we all had sorbet between each shake. It's fun!
The one that saved me was Syntrax Nectar ("Fuzzy Navel" flavor) available from Vitamin Shop or online. You mix these yourself. As far as pre-made shakes go, I liked Pure Protein at the time, but recently discovered the Oh Yeah shakes, which I love. They're actually a treat for me now after a work out.
As for vitamins, I used Solotron Chewables available from GNC. My nutritionist says Centrum chewables are fine. Many people SWEAR by the Bariatric Advantage vitamins available online, but I've never tried them.
One thing I HIGHLY recommend is the Bariatric Advantage chewable calcium bites - they come in chocolate and lemon flavor and have been the easiest way for me to get my calcium in. They're about 90 calories a day, though (for 6 of them coming to 1500 mg of calcium), so if you want a lower calorie alternative try Tropical Oasis calcium + vitamin D, available at WholeFoods. Totally the best of the liquid calciums.
Hope that helps!
