Contact Sports - Rugby & Football
Question for you long timers with Lapband Surgery or anyone that might have an idea...
I've been a member of our gay rugby team (The Atlanta Bucks) for the past year as an Auxillary member (non player, help with fundraising, team support, etc) and I am really thinking about joining the team and becoming an actual player. (plus the uniforms are so hot!)
Just having Lapband surgery that might not be the smartest thing and if course I'm going to ask my doctor too...Fall season starts in September, my surgery was in May. Rugby is much rougher than Football, and I don't have the luxury of pads. I can only imagine what it might feel like to get hit in the stomach during a tackle.
Thoughts? Any other sports buffs out there who are currently playing a contact sport like football, rugby, etc?

I'm not a bander....I had RNY in Feb...so I just hit the 4 month mark. I was thinking about taking up a MMA class that would include sparing. I talked to my dr about it and was given the okay to proceede with any contact sports I wished. They told me that after 6 weeks that the stomach and everything was healed. However, the banding may be different....I would just talk to your dr.
Didn't they do a special on your team with LOGO or something? I remember seeing something about Rugby and thought it was a GA team on there.
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!
