Recovery Update & a question...
I will say that this board is really busy right now! LOL I don't even remember where the messages left off.
Anyways, recovery is going good. Today is my last day of clear liquids and tomorrow I can move into the "blender stage". I will be so happy to be done with broth... I'm not sure what happened after surgery but a lot of things smell bad to me now. Broth is one of them.
Since coming home on Thursday, I have taken two pain pills and 400mg of prophylactic motrin every six to eight hours. (Don't freak with VSG I can have motrin.) I find it really cuts down on the soreness. I'm actually glad to not need the pain meds because I think the dilaudid was a bit overboard.
I had my first full night's sleep last night. I was shocked when I looked at the clock and it was 7:30am. I think I attribute this to the fact my bowels are slowing down.
And exercise wise, I've walked for the past two days. I thought I might have pushed it yesterday when I walked a mile but not really. Today, the dog who prefers to pull me along came with me. I find walks without him boring and I feel guilty not bringing him.
Anyways, onto the question. Can I have coffee yet? Tomorrow I will be 7 days post-op. My surgery manual mentions nothing about coffee. I'm guessing I can have it tomorrow since I'm off clear liquids but I'm not sure.
Thanks for all the support guys!

I was always told that coffee was a no no because of the caffine... caffine triggers hunger.
It's also fairly harsh on your new stomach and the incisions.
having said that... I allow myself to have a cup every now and then, but I waited until after the first 3 months.
You'll probably want the answer to come from the real coffee junkies on the board because I was totally ok with skipping coffee.

Congratulations on the exercise and advancing diet. As far as the coffee goes, the tannic acids are very harsh on the stomach. They promote ulcer formation and coffee and tea should be avoided until you heal.
Having said that, I drink 6 or more cups every day. But, I abstained for a full year after surgery.

Kevin, I am glad I stopped by tonight. I had wondered if you had surgery and what type. It's nice to see things are going so well for you. I had lapband and could have coffee after clear liquids, decaf only. I hope your recovery continues very smoothly. -- Tom

I'm not a coffee drinker but we were told we can have decaf coffee ...I always see the post ops drinking iced coffees from Dunkin's, actually one guy brings like 6 in for his "friends" at the post op groups. I'm not sure if they are getting decaf or what.
Any way ..sounds like you are doing a great job!!!
