I'm doing the at home sleep study to see if I've got Sleep Apnea - I really hope I don't.  I have a hard enough time sleeping when my lady breathes in my face, let alone a stupid machine.

Please send me some peaceful vibes so that I don't have this and I get a surgery date soon.

Thanks Loves!

Incidentally, having sleep apnea helped me get my approval.  It was the only co-morbidity I had, so I'm sort of glad I had it.

Sleep tight!

:::Well::: hmm:::

On a positive note, although I hate having sleep apnea (I'm pre-op) and having to use the stupid machine, I sleep so soundly now it's incredible. I've had clinical depression forever, and I can honestly say that the deeper, more refreshing sleep enabled by the machine has both improved and stabilized my mood. The darn thing is amazing.

And furthermore ... once you have the surgery and shed those pounds you can dig a hole in the yard and happily toss in the CPAP!

It's all good! Hang in there!!

 OMG, Sharyn!  You are so funny!  My partner makes a sound like an elephant when I put my mask on because of the hose.  Oy.

But if you do have sleep apnea, use the CPAP.  It may take some getting used to, but when you consider what it will do for your health, it's worth it.  I had 2 types of masks, one that covers my nose and one with "pillows" that fit on my nostrils.  The latter is more comfortable and I don't feel as claustrophic except when I exhale.  The air doesn't get out as well as it does on the other one, so I use the nose mask.

Keep us posted, k?

My wife had severe sleep apnea before her RNY.  The CPAP was a definite mood killer, but it kept her from falling asleep behind the wheel of her SUV.

Sleep Apnea is actually a pretty serious condition. Not only does it decrease the amount of oxygen in your body...and to your brain, but it can increase your risk for hypertension. cardiovascular disease and premature death.

It also makes some people hypersensitive to narcotics.....and this is a good thing to know before going into surgery so that if you have it, they can make sure that you have appropriately post op monitoring.

Good luck with the study and i hope you dont have it and if you do have it i hope you use a CPAP machine and that it goes away with weight loss.

My husband has really bad sleep apenea and uses a bipap machine.  Before wls, I, too, had to use a machine; however, about a year after surgery, I had another sleep study and didn't need the machine.  So, if you need to use a cpaap machine, it might be only temporary.  My husband's isn't from being overweight, although he is a little overweight, his is from years and years of smoking and having bad lungs.
