Am I Eating Too Much?
Hello Again!
So... Today makes 2 weeks that I am officially a bandster! I'm healing very well and feeling great! I can even sleep on my stomach (for 2 days now)!
Anyways, today was my first day of "soft foods." According to my packet from my surgeon... it seems to me this includes everything but beef, thick chicken, rice, and dense breads.
So... I've been keeping track of my daily calories/fat/protein and of course water. Here is what I had today...
7 am : 27 Calories in vitamins and calcium.
Breakfast 7:20am: 5 oz
2 Serving of egg beaters
1 slice of FF chedder (made like an omlete)
2 Slices of whole grain toast
Lunch 12:10pm - 4 oz
Tuna lite pouch
2 tablespoons of Helmens lite mayo
1/2 cup natural applesauce
Dinner 4:20pm - 10.5 oz (omg)
1 serving Whole grain penne pasta 2oz
Barilla garlic tomato sauce 4.5 oz (is this like liquid?)
canned chicken (looks like tuna) 4oz
Snack maybe this evening around 7:30. - 4oz
FF Frozen yogurt
Liquids:
64 oz water
8 oz FF milk
Total Cal: 980 (including a possible snack) Total Fat: 17.5 Total Protein: 87g!
Oh and 400 calories burned on the elliptical this evening after dinner.
Okay, so my big question... Am I eating too much?! I honestly didn't think I would be able to eat this much. I was eating like this (1000-1200 cal diet) for 3 weeks before my surgery and feel like I'm back on track. That damn full liquid phase threw me off. Anyways... I'm FULL! (or should I say satisfied?) Whichever... I was happy today with eating and when I was doing this "diet" before surgery I was ALWAYS hungry!
Also... since today is 2 weeks post op, I weighed myself and have only lost 7lbs since I've been home. (However I came home 4 lbs heavier from the gas, so i guess that is a total of 11lbs). I'm not too thrilled. BUT I am not discouraged!

Every band Dr has different food size and ideas. At this time you are healing and now on soft foods. Practice chewing until really mushie. I was starving most days until I reached a good fill for my body. Once you reach your sweet spot, you may not be able to eat breads, rice, or pasta. My Dr has me at 75% of each meal protein and the rest carbs. Everyone is so different.
The scale is not your friend so I suggest you take your measurements and then retake them when you go to the Dr again. I know a lot of people that eat between 1000, to 1200 calories a day and are losing at a rate of 1 to 2 lbs a week. I am losing at about a lb a week and am happy with that. LOL I an not young so I feel slow helps my skin shrink a bit more.
You are doing great!

Band removed and feeling alive with energy!
I'm glad you are doing well. That damn gas stuff really sucks! Or is it "blows" ! LOL! If you are concerned about the number of pounds that you are losing, you might consider using the meal plan your doctor suggested but reduce the carbs. By at least half. And as the other person *****plied to your post suggested, chew chew chew your food and eat really slowly. The next trick is to pay attention to when you feel full and stop. This has been one of my biggest challenges. I'll eat slowing but have just a little left and I'm getting bored from sitting and chewing the **** out of my dinner for 45 minutes, so my impulse is to shove the last bite into my mouth and be done with it. But when I've caught myself, I realize that I don't need it, I'm full and if I eat it, I'll just feel crappy. Can I just tell you how satisfying it is to put it down? All the little devil voices in my head who are trying to make me eat it are countered by things like, "it's not going to waste because it's not going to my waist!" Or, the starving children somewhere in some third world country won't benefit from me eating food that my body doesn't need. It's like taking your power back. And it's freakin' awesome!
Sorry...I kinda got off on a tangent, but hopefully it will inspire you to do whatever works for you best.
Aloha,
Barb

You're about right were I was at 3 weeks but,, I swear if I got in 900 cals per day it was a push. So you must be doing very well.... I honestly dont think you're eating to much. We're all a little different it seams in that regard. Keep in mind that if youre working out and moving at all you do have to give your body cals to burn. 1000-1200 is supposed to be the target for most adults. Right Now I'm close to 1200 per day.. If I dip to far below that I tend to stall..
