I travel a lot with my job so I started looking around to see if there was a website that had nutricianal information on what fast foods might work. Here's a website that I found:

Good site!

Usually I go with a potato or salad from Wendys ...and other places I go with a salad. My NUT suggests the chilli from Wendys ..lots of protein in it I guess.

When Phyllis and I started our 1200 cal diet, we found that even things we thought were pretty healthy choices, were not. Not sure if you have ipod touch or iphone, but there is a restaurant app that will locate restaurants around you (incl fast food) and give you their entire menu, with all the nutrish info. We found that of everything, grilled chicken from KFC was the best, if you stick to having a breast, and nothing else from there.

Good Luck

I agree that Wendy's has the best food selection for me. I also do the chili and maybe a baked potato or side salad. I also do very well with their taco salad which us just a salad with the chili poured over the top and cheese. Although, I can only eat half of it. Most fast food burgers are too dry for me. The chicken wraps at Wendy's or McDonald's also work well. I need to discard about 1/2 of the wrap though.

When in Manila yesterday, I stopped at Wendy's and got a chili.  It's a little different here.  It has big chunks of onion, diced celery and is a tiny bit sweet.  It's actually quite good.

I don't really like McDonald's or Burger King.  I'm not really into burgers of any kind any more.  An interesting thing, the American burger places here all also offer rice, spaghetti and fried chicken.  Taco Bell has pork burritos and tacos (beef is consumed on a much smaller level here.)  My favorite thing, tho, is KFC, where the hot little guy who shares the same name as me working behind the counter is the most finger lickin' good thing on their menu...

Cheers,

Chris

The best fast food option is no fast food options.

I haven't eaten it in over 4 years and you could say I travel 48 hours a week for my job.

With fast food there is ALWAYS a trade off.  Wether it's calories for sodium or fat for sugar...

Not to mention everything is treated with preservatives and/or additives and just because the FDA lists these preservatives and additives as "generally regarded as safe" that does not mean they are.

There really are healthy alternatives to fast food, even at 4am.  It just takes a little bit of work to find them and once you do you will find it's very easy to stop relying on fast food as an excuse for food.

Hi Kevin.

Can you give us some travel tips that you use for finding food at odd hours or when traveling? What are some things you've done that work well which are good alternatives to plastic food (fast food)?

Thanks!!!

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ANY IDEAS YOU OR ANYONE MAY HAVE!! I get really tired of living out of my cooler when I'm on the road and not all of the hotels that I stay at have refrigerators and microwaves.
