Hi,
So cool...we really are EVERYWHERE!  I am new to the site and I have a date!

I am starting to get nervous. I have had some "last supper syndrome" episodes lately.

I looking to connect with some people!

LAP BAND   7/1/09  Scheduled, approved, and ready to go.

Also  does anyone think I can squeeze 4 weeks off from work for recovery ?

I am sure I could go back before then but was wondering if anyone needed that much time.

Hey Gretchen!

Welcome!!

Congrats on having ur date and being ready to go! You must be so excited! I am 3 days post-op - lapband. Hm... 4 weeks? I don't really think you will need that much time. I took off one week, but i do realize that is short. I'm finally feeling better today and should have no problems going back to work this Thursday... as long as I do NO heavy lifting. =)

Best of Luck!!!!!!!!!

<3,
Phyllis

Hi there!  Congrats on getting a date!  I was given 3 weeks off and really needed it.  I guess I am a whimp as a lot of people took a week or two.
Welcome to the board!

 Aloha!
I understand your nervousness.  We've all been there, believe me!  I was nervous while on the bed just prior to surgery wanting drugs soon so I wouldn't have to think about it any more!  For real, follow the pre-op recommendations carefully.  It will help you a great deal and it helps that you'll be shrinking your tummy already.  That's when I realized just how much I'd been eating when I saw how little I needed.  Yikes!

I'm about 2 1/2 months out from lap band and am not working right now, but I would suggest to plan on at least 2 weeks recovery.  3 would be great but 4 might be pushing it.  And you probably won't need 4.  Your first week may be a little rough but be assured that it will get better once you are beyond it.  Just be gentle on yourself, don't overdo anything and make sure you follow instructions fromthe doctor, dieticians, and RNs or whomever else is on your team.  I had the RN on speed dial practically and contacted her frequently.  Don't be afraid to ask questions even if they seem silly.  This is your time for making really big changes in your life so take advantage of the help that's offered.  It will help establish a really good foundation for you.

Best of everything to you!  Let us all know how things are both pre and post op, okay?

Aloha,
Barb

Nerves are just part of it you will have some and thats a good thing. But, the surgery is simple.. You're in your out.. I swear if I didnt feel kind of like crap right afterward I wouldnt have known they did it at all. In fact for me the next morning I had to LOOK at that upper GI to make sure that the band  was really in there...
Congratulations on you surgery date...

You should take FMLA.... You also qualify for short term disability. So if you get you're doctor to back you up (they have to fill out the paperwork) you can get off as much time as you feel you need. I was out of work 3.5 weeks and honestly it was needed. I know some of the doctors dont really support that but, mine did and it really worked to my advantage.

I had open RNY and was out for 4 weeks. I needed more BUT that is because of what I do. All I do is sit at a machine and process checks. I would get too stuff and sore just sitting there. I really couldn't get up and move too much. Good luck!
