OT: Wedding ettiquette
Just got an invitation to a friend's wedding in July. I don't have a suit anymore, but I do have a tuxedo I was thinking that I could take in.
Can you wear a tuxedo to a wedding if you're not in the wedding party? Or is that too fancy? Do I need to spring for a suit? If so, where's a good place to get formal clothes when you're wearing 3x that won't break me?
Any advice?
Don
I don't think it would look right if you were in a tux, and you'd probably feel uncomfortable.
*You could always wear your birthday suit!!
Men's warehouse has some good sales, as does Casual Male XL, I know they're both expensive, but if you buy online you can get pretty good deals.
Good Luck!

From what I've always heard, tuxedos at weddings are typically reserved for the wedding party only. It distinguishes them from the rest of the guests.
Is the wedding in the early afternoon or evening? If it is early afternoon in July, you could probably get away with a nice shirt and tie, as afternoon weddings tend to be less formal. If it is the evening, a suit would probably be best (though honestly, it depends on how laid back the couple is).
I know folks who have had luck getting suits in that size from Burlington Coat Factory (if you have one nearby) as well as Men's Warehouse.
I would suggest checking out SYMS - do you have them CA? How formal the wedding is usually depends on the time...if it's an evening wedding, a tux would be acceptable. However, if it's a morning or afternoon wedding, you can wear a suit or separates...khaki slacks with a nice jacket with dress shirt and tie, which I think you get for a reasonable price at SYMS or Men's Wearhouse.
