Surgery was on Friday....
I feel like **** my head hurts...maybe I am not getting enough to "eat" or maybe its the pain meds. Today I had some jello, some chicken broth, a protein shake and a popscicle. Just have no appetite at all. The gas pains are unreal. Today is better than yesterday/last night was though. My chest and stomach area is really tight feeling, hard to cough. I've been taking some tums and that seems to be helping some. Do I regret doing this? no way! I am trying to focus on a week from now, a month from now and 6 months from now.
The plus side of all of this? The phone calls, the text messages, the words of love from Family and Friends has been great. My coworkers sent me some lovely flowers and my parents, who gave up part of their vacation to be here with me, bought me a 32 inch HDTV for my bedroom as a get well gift.
I just want to feel better....
Make sure you use your breathing machine too... that will help too. If you have a surgery pillow (or any pillow) hold it against your chest and cough every now and then to release the crap in your lungs.
Hopefully you stopped caffeine a while back? If not, there's a reason for your headache... my guess is that you might be having a hard time getting your water in? Lack of water = hangover feeling :-(
Keep us posted.... if you have any questions just holler!!
I'm glad to hear you are home and surrounded by lots of love. I can relate to your pains. Keep going. It really does get better! Today is my sixth day after surgery and I'm just starting to feel better.
Remember... walk, walk,walk... sip, sip, sip... breathe, breathe, breathe and cough cough cough (even though it hurts like hell!) Use the pillow or a tightly folded bath towel. It really does help.
Big hugs,
Brent...
Yeah, the feeling like **** will last a few days. I had an incredible headache too and it was from caffiene withdrawals. Plus the liquid pain med made me ill. My sugeon would not let me have coffee for about three months and I will be honest, that was worse on me than the lack of food.
The gas was awful and sometimes still is, but it too shall pass. Sorry, couldn't resist. Take one day at a time and trust me, in a week you will see that your pants bag, that your shirts are loose.
Oh, and to build up your strength, walk. The longer you baby yourself, the harder it is on you. walk and sit upright for as long as you can. I got out of the hospital on Sunday, went back to work on Monday. Of course, I'm a professor so it was easy to sit at my desk and lecture, but the walk from the parking garage was really difficult. By the end of week two, I was perky.
