OT: Gym bag stench

Hey all -

My gym bag is lethal.  I mean...LETHAL.  I've washed it, I've left it outside overnight turned inside out, and it still just reeks.  What's more, it's not just the bag.  It seems like if I leave any of my clothes in a gym bag longer than a few hours after a gym session they start stinking up the bag they're in, the car the bag's in, the parking garage I park my car in....you get the idea.

Since I work out in the morning, I can't just take the clothes out and toss them in a hamper right afterwards.  I have to go to work.

Anyone have any suggestions for stinky gym bags?  Are there bag deoderizers?  Powders?  Anything?  My car's starting to smell like a locker room.  I have to fix this.

hmmmm.....well you know the reason for the smell is uaully because of drying sweat and if not washed promptly it can get musty.......maybe get either some baking soda or the powder foot spray for athlete's foot (I know you don't have a fungus but it does dry everything out and I know it doesn't make my feet stink) like Lotrimin or tinactin.....it has a nice smell to it if you don't mind the powder.....i would spray your bag with it......and if you are an all natural kinda boy.....Lush.com makes T for Toes which is another foot powder but it's all natural and is used to keep things dry.

What is the bag made out of?

Get yourself a couple of those storage bags that you use when you travel. I get mine at Target  they are with the luggage/ duffel bags. I like the ones you seal and roll to get the air out. I use them when I travel to keep my clean items separate I keep two in my gym backpack. One for my stinky shoes and one for my stinky clothes.

Try charcoal.  Yes, sounds weird, but apparently it is used to absorb odors.  I didn't know about this until this weekend when my mother and I were walking through Walmart looking for clothes pins...the charcoal was sitting in the same place.  When I was like "what the hell"...she was kind enough to explain it to me...a mother's job is never done...LOL.  General place to look in Walmart would be in the hamper isle.

Huh!  Awsome suggestion!  I actually need a new hamper, so that's perfect.  I hope target carries charcoal like that, too.

I'm assuming we're not talking briquettes, here.  It comes in a little bag, or something?

They were in a package, but they probably have some kind of coating...otherwise I can't imagine putting them in a closet or drawer to get stuff all over the clothes.  Target should have them...I much prefer Target myself...you know the whole small stores vs Walmart politics...anyway, getting my toe off the soapbox...LOL.

also make sure you are using a gym bag made of a breathable fiber.  I have an awesome bag that I got at Virgin in London, but it's vinyl... and it got VERY musty, so I had to switch to one made of a breathable fabric, and the problem went away.
