I'm not enjoying this so far....

Ok so I started my 2 week preop liquid diet today......IT SUCKS!!

Maybe it's just cuz I tend to want what I can't have but not being able to eat anything you can chew really does a number on your noggin at first. I've been chewing gum and drinking water in between my shakes (I think I've had almost a gallon today - no joke) and I'm getting plenty of protien. God bless GNC. They carry these 42g protein shots that are awesome. I had the fruit punch today and it tasted like cherry jello.

I'm just tryin to keep my eyes on the prize here, but some one please tell me it gets easier....

Honey of COURSE it gets easier....you have to go through hell at first but trust me, the prize is tremendous! I know how you feel though. The liquid diet was literal hell for me. And to be honest I cheated right near the end and had my 'final meal' which I do suggest you have as well no matter what flack i get for saying that to you. I think having your last meal is very important because trust me, after surgery it will be months and months and months before you can eat foods 'normally' like you did before. Obviously not in the same amount as before surgery, but at first you're eating tuna and water haha. I just hope you keep your eye on the 'prize' and just keep thinking 'it will get better, I want to be healthy'

heheehehehe...try doing that for 9 months ;)  I was on a mostly liquid diet for 9 months prior to surgery....I got one small meal for dinner.....at least there was a reprieve there but still....drink drink drink.......this is to get you mentally prepared because believe it or not.....you're going to be doing this for a month honey.........I know what you mean about the act of chewing and crunching.......instead of gum, try breath savers or something...at least when it gets down so far, you can crunch it.

I'm so glad you told that b/c I didn't want to!!! Right after surgery seems to be the most bothersome mess ever but at least you don't 'crave' anything. At least I didn't.

yeah.......I think the big thing is that people don't realize that they will have no appetite at all for many months after surgery.......they'll be fighting/forcing themselves to eat/drink......that's what makes it bareable.

Yeah that's true. I am rarely hungry now even a year out.

You can do this, Bea.  It's difficult, you'll be grouchy, and you may want to take it out on the world - but you're strong enough to get through this.

It's the last hurdle.  Jump it!

It gets easier...that's what you want to hear so hear that now.  However the best friend is the one
that tells it like it is not the one that goes along with what you wish were true.
