Let's go shopping!!!

I'm not sure if my program will provide me with the following information but I've been thinking about my cupboards and refrigerator and what to do with all the food in them.

I'm kind of the type of person who is prepared for the worst. Meaning, I probably have two months worth of food saved up for if I suddenly find myself unable to buy food.

I was looking at my freezer the other day and it dawned on me, I probably have enough food in here to last me a year after the surgery.  Then another fact dawned on me, I have nothing to eat post surgery.  I have chicken stock and I always have protein powder and yogurt but beyond that nothing.  I live up a flight and a half of stairs so shopping after the surgery will be difficult considering the lifting restriction.

Did anyones program provide them with a pre-surgery shopping list?

And the other thing that bothers me is the fact that I'll have to get used to eating things that are artificially sweetened.  Right now, I only eat things that are naturally and organically sweetened.  Meaning, no nutrasweet, no splenda and no high fructose corn syrup.

I got rid of all the food in my house when I started the Pre Op diet 2 weeks before surgery.  I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks  before surgery and 2 weeks after and during the 2 weeks after I had plenty of time to get what I needed. I just started eating a little food yesterday and today per my dr's orders but the amount is so small that you really don't need to worry about shopping for it before surgery. Just make sure you have plenty of protein powder as that is what you will be relying on a lot for the first few weeks.

Well, I probably have 200 dollars worth of food in my freezer so throwing everything away is not an option.  My pre-op diet consists of a daily caloric intake of less than 1000 calories.  I don't need to do a liquid diet.

I've read that people are not hungry after the surgery and if that is the case I don't think I'll have anything to worry about.  As long as I'm drinking protein shakes, water and takeing the multi-vitamin I should be ok.

If not, I think I will experiment around with gelatin and try to make something that is naturally flavored with fruit and contains little or no sugar added...

I still don't know how I'm going to deal with eating artifical sweeteners...

The stuff you can still eat can be cooked and then frozen in zip lock bags. Then you can just warm up what you need when you want it. Stuff you cant eat can be donated to a food kitchen and you can use it as a deduction on your taxes. I pick this book up at the library:
Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery

Thank you Wayne.  I was already thinking about the zip-lock bag idea.  And thank you for the book suggestion.  I will pick it up.

Try Stevia - it is natural. Looks and works like sugar.
