Excess Skin Fears

So I am watching a show on MTV called True Life.  A guy on here has lost about 250pds and he has a ton of excess skin and I am freaked out....  I don't think I can handle this/do that.

I know I don't have to loose 2050pds, I am looking to loose about 75 to 100pds.

I'm pretty tall.... I stand at 6ft2 and weigh about 325pds now.   My surgery is scheduled for May 15th...  I carry the majority of my weight in my thighs, my stomach and my ass.  (yeah I know, a dream for a top guy that loves a thick bottom like but anyway... lol)

So I guess I want to hear from you that have had the surgery....  Did you have the skin issues?  Did you work out daily and still have the skin issues?  Did any of you NOT have any issues?   I expect some...

Maybe I should rethink this?   Do I need to hire a trainer?  Maybe I won't have as much issues as I think I will?

(I tend to have high anxiety, lol)

Help me get a realistic picture on this?

Darlin' slow down... you'll be fine. I'm a girl and girls have more loose skin (boobs) but I lost 112 pounds and although I have loose skin it's not that bad. Now...the ability to shrink that loose skin depends on pigmentation, age, amount lost, and age, and age and freaking age. I'm 53. I can work with a trainer till the cows turn into leather boots and my skin is not going to shrink.

If you are really concerned out the loose skin, start stocking away the money now for your plastic surgery. That is the only true answer to the loose skin. Start a special savings account now and put as much as possible away. It's advised that you not have PS until you are at least at your goal weight for a year to 18 months so you have time. In the mean time suck it up and deal with the baggies, knowing that it's better empty skin than full.

Don't stress... your heath is the main thing. Live long enough to enjoy the loose skin... and then you can get it fixed. It's a fact of WLS... you are going to have some. I can tell you I have quite a bit but in clothes, I look freaking hot... out of clothes, not so much,  but anyone lucky enough to see me naked, loves me anyway!

It's worth the baggies, believe me!

Lady Raven, I appreciate you taking the time to write me back.   I'm still a bit concerned, but I know this is for the better.  I do like the idea of saving money now... just in case.   I could handle some extra skin... not sure if I will ever call it "baggies" though, lol.    The show I watched the guy lost so much weight, that is what I was visioning myself..   hopefully my earlier posted reply didnt offend you.  It wasnt meant to, hence the reason it's been deleted now.   HUGS!

I've been away from OH for a few days and just now got back. Awww... now I want to see what you wrote. I'm not easily offended so if you want to repost it to me, either here or in a message to me that would be fine. Like I said I really don't think you can offend me.

Big lesbo hugs!!!

When I asked my doctor about skin problems he said it's very hard to tell but the younger you are the better of a chance you have at not having serious issues.

I posted the same exact concern a few weeks back.  Here's a link to my post and everyone's replies.

It was very insightful!

I hope this helps you.

Chances are ..you WILL have extra skin. My surgery center has support groups 2 times a month and last month they had a local plastic surgeon come in and talk to us. The #1 question asked was about skin. And she said if you've been obese for a long time that skin is not going to just 'bounce back' after weight loss and no amount of exercise will help. She said exercise will help tone everything under the skin so if you did have plastic surgery the exercise will help in how you look after.

I watched the same True Life show on MTV. The last guy was huge and lost a lot, but if you noticed ..when he was dressed you would of never guessed he was a weight loss surgery patient. One thing I've learned (or figured out) is not every clothing item is right for me. My shirts need to be longer so I end up getting larges when I only need small or medium. I can't wear low rise jeans either. Does the skin bother me? Hell yeah! But I just make sure I buy the right things to cover and carry myself nicely!

Someone I know here (maybe she'll post but I won't post her name) has a better looking tummy than I do. Hers looks flat. Mine is flabby and cottage cheesey. Yuck. I think the difference between us is I've been pregnant, she hasn't. I had my daughter 9 yrs ago and just continued gaining and gaining. For me ..my tummy definitely isn't going to 'bounce back'. It's been stretched too long. So I think history and how you've been obese has to do with what you look like after.

Well.....I don't want to scare you....but I have to at least offer this up for anyone reading this post.  I have lost 250 pounds and I have major skin issues.  I will have plastic surgery to get rid of a lot of it.  like you, I was bottom heavy....I had 40" thighs at my largest.  Even though people consider me young still, I have had that big body for at least 20 years so I am saggy as all hell.  My thighs are so fluid right now that they knock me off balance........However, I AM one of the lucky ones to have a perma-rash because of the loose skin.  Easily gets irritated for me.  this is the main ingredient for having insurance pay for at least a tummy tuck and a panni.....and possibly a thigh plasty since the rash extends to my thighs.  As far as my moobs/udders well I'll just have to live with that.

I just posted this on Live Journal that everyone's body reacts differently to the changes they undergo after surgery.  Take it one day at a time and don't freak out about this when you're about to go through your major life altering event.  If you sag, so be it.....you are at least alive and healthy enough to worry about that A YEAR FROM NOW  LOL

*HUGE BEAR HUGS* handsome :)  with your stature I think you will be just fine :)
