The Last Supper Syndrome
Hey Everyone,
I need to lose 20 pounds before I can get OK'd for surgery ... and yet I am reaching for inappropriate foods now more than ever. I've set up an appointment with a dietician this week and hope she can give me a good food plan and some inspiration. Surgery is within sight, yet I seem to be heading in the opposite direction! Oy.

OMG! I know how you feel. When I finally was given a date I freaked out and wanted nothing but candy bars. And not just one but I had to try every single kind! I continued to eat crappy because I knew in a short time I wouldn't be able to have those foods anymore. Dont worry it's normal. Do you go to the gym? Exercise helped me out a lot . Even when I did eat something I shouldn't have going to the gym helped shed the pounds. Good luck!
Dont panic.. Go in with a game plan... The Dietitian is a nice place to start. Meeting with a psychologist might not be such a bad thing either.. ... May I also suggest picking up a copy of Nutrition For Dummy's. It will help you understand nutrition better also Weigh****chers Before surgery was very helpful to me after surgery. Weigh****chers much as we DREAD it offers A LOT in the way of education that Ive found very useful now. They also offer support and though you will find in the WLS community Weigh****cher for many people seams to be easier to get to.
I wish I could say the magic words and take away the head hunger, but I can't. However I can tell you what works for me; I too am trying to lose 20lbs. so I can get my date and I struggle everyday-but it's about choice.
Every time I'm faced with an unhealthy food option I know that I have the choice to stay the same person and eat it, or decide that I want to make a change and turn it down. I think of those foods as poison to the person that I want to become and remind myself of the goals that I need to achieve.
I wish you the best of luck and I hope that the nut gives you the tools and plan to help you find success!!

Greetings from NC. Thank God I found a place for the LGBT support on this lifelong journey. About two week prior to my surgery which was May 1, 2009, I had a last prep visit and had gained 5 pounds which really upset my doctor. I was on that "this will be my last chance to eat it" diet (pizza, pasta, hamburgers). He told me I had two weeks to lose the weight I had gained and then some. So I went on an Adkins' diet which is my standard anyway and I lost 10 pounds. I do very well on Adkins because I love meat, eggs and cheese. Maybe a low carb, low calorie meal plan will get you were you need to be. For the occasional snack there is soy chips that you can find in most grocery stores. I think they are better than potato chips and are full of protein and light on the carbs.
