For the Ladies...Hair Loss
Okay ladies....how many of you have or are suffering hair loss because of your bypass? I noticed my hair loss early last month. I have very thick hair (thank God!) and normally lose some in the Spring...like my kitties I shed my winter coat, so I wasn't thinking too much about it. However, now I think it's more than my annual shed. I can run my hand through my hair and come out with at least five to ten hairs. It seems to be worse in the mornings and it's definitely noticeable in the shower. Also, my hair texture has changed especially the underside along the neckline. Has anyone noticed this problem? If so, what have you done to combat it? My hair has always been my best feature...the color, thickness, and general ease of styling it. I have a hair appointment on Thursday to get it cut...I'm going to get a pixie style...I think...I finally have a face that's thin enough and I think they're so cute, but I don't want to have any bald spots!

I know this won't help, much, but try to just ignore it as best you can.
I also have very, very thick hair and was horrified when my hair started falling out in the shower. For the first time in my life I could see my scalp through my hair. It was terrible. Lasted during months 2, 3, 4, lessened in 5 and now that I'm getting close to month 6 my hair's finally coming back bit by bit.
This, too, shall pass.

As a youth and early adult I had thick hair. As I aged it became thin on top (male pattern baldness)
Then I decided that my head was fat and the hairs had spaced out and that was why they had "seemed"to be thin and after WLS my head would be thinner and that hair would come back together and look thick again....no, huh?

Mine started about month 4 and lasted until just over month 7. It had started to ease up about month 6 but started a little more after the gall bladder surgery. It's back just as think as ever. For a while my texture was different but now it's back to normal. I still have some curls at my neck and I think I actually have more body now than before.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

In general the hair loss comes with the surgery, I was told by my doctor and several others who've had the surgery that part of it comes from the lack of protein we consume, therefore really being diligent in getting in all the protein that was recommended by our doctors as well as Biotin, which helps.
I noticed my hair loss about a month after my procedure and now 4 months out, after taking the Biotin for 1 month and making sure that I stick to amount of protein I'm supposed to have per day, I see a lot of new growth and my hair filling back in again.
I know everyone is different, some lose, some don't but there are things to take into consideration and your daily intake is one. Good luck and know that it generally starts to come back.

My hair started falling out about 2-3 weeks ago. I know it is WLS related but cant help but think my recent stress has contributed to it. It kinda sucks because my hair isnt thick to start with.....i have that thin fly away hair.....yuck. But, so far i havent panicked because i wouldnt trade that hair for the 60+ pounds ive lost and I KNOW hair will eventually grow back. im hoping the fat doesnt =D.

I lost gobs of hair from 4-6 months. Today, at almost 8 months post-op, my hairdresser told me that she can see lots of little short hairs and she thinks it is less gray. I am not so sure about the gray part. . . I still lose a few extra hairs on days I drop weight which is sporadic now. I have been taking Biotin daily but have no idea if it helped.
