5 Day Pouch Test Review
So some of you know I was doing the 5 Day Pouch test this last week. And a lot of you have been asking how it went, what is it, etc.
Just a brief explanation, it is a 5 day back to basics program meant to help you end the carb battle and get reaquinted with your pouch.
My first year post op was like a honeymoon, I felt full easy, they weight just slid off, and foods that use to haunt me I didn't even want anymore.. Then came the dreaded year.. Actually at about 10 months, my weight loss slowed down, I was able to tolerate a little more and a some newer foods. I hit a plateau or two, but that's normal, right?
Then came my 1 year. I starting eating things I knew I shouldn't, I was going out of town a lot and not making the right choices. My pouch was handling most things (no sugar still) and I was able to eat more.. Or so I thought. But it was EXACTLY what my doctor said. I was eating the wrong foods more often. Then the 10 pound shocking, and dreaded weight gain came. So I did the 5 day pouch test.
It is not meant to help you lose weight (although a lot of people do, and I dropped 5 pounds of the 10 I am trying to rid myself of) It is meant to make you feel full quick again, and break the carb cravings..
Bottom line?? The firs two days were a b!t@h but IT WORKED!! I feel great. I am back to eating the way I should and the foods I should. And I don't feel hungry if I pay attention.
But it also taught me something very intereting. I mean the jury is still out, but I think I may actually disagree with Kaiser for the first time.. But that is a whole other story. If you want to discuss it, email me!!
I think I am going to do the pouch test every few months or so. . Just to keep my pouch tight and happy FOREVER!! (well I can dream, right?)

I have found a new way of life that has kept me at Goal since 2008.. And keeping it that way!
Glad to hear the pouch test was successful for ya! I can only imagine how my hunger and eating habits will vanish when I have my surgery. It seems far from grasp. Right now I feel like I eat everything in front of me! Grrrr....
Im still far from surgery, at least 4 months or so, but I love reading everyone's posts here about the experiences they have. I feel like I have a huge advantage going into surgery just by reading these posts!
Have a great friday!

Thank you! And yes this site is extremely helpful. Also if you haven't gotten it already, go buy:
Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. It really was helpful for me. It helped me almost more than my Kaiser information packets!

Thanks for posting. Actually, the other night at my support group meeting, someone asked tthe nutritionist about the test and if it had value. She had no opinion but said the surgeons didn't think highly of it. I say if it works and puts you back on track then give it a try. It's only 5 days, a short amount of time to invest with possible good results. -- Tom

I guess it really depends on your reason for doing it. If it is to lose weight than don't do it. It clearly states the purpose of the 5 day pouch test is NOT to lose weight (even though I lost 6 pounds) but to "feel" your pouch again.. And it definintly did that for me!
