Who has Post-Op Hunger?
I don't. So much so, that I forget to eat and drink already.
I have to buy a watch with an alarm on it....so it beeps .........or something.
This is crazy nuts........like I am talking....NO hunger.....NADA..............Zippo.....................Zilch.
And I am on full fluids until next week.
While I am happy that this is happening .........it kinda weirds me out some. LOL
I went from a Big girl...eat-anything-anytime-all the time (which is what got me Big)
To a slightly shrinking girl......with no hunger in the scant 50 minutes it takes for this operation!!
A-FREAKIN-MAZING.
Now I am working on a way to make sure I eat and drink as I should be.
Wow....what a thing to wrap my head around...LOL
SOOOOO....who does not have VSG post-op hunger? Also, who didn't............and now later does?
Thanks ................Jane

I am definately with you on this one... I eat like 2 bites of food and Im like "ugh I have to finish this?". I am only eating 1/4 c. but heck, it just seems like a chore haha. Which, like you is a HUGE change from my previous life as a big girl lol. Usually I would be craving anything and everything. I do get thirsty alot though.
Hi Jane... enjoy it. You are training your body while you are losing weight. Yes, there will come a time when it will be more work. As you get to your goal weight and further out from surgery, you will be able to take in more food and there will come a time when you will want to.
Use this time now to lose consistently and somewhat effortlessly. This is your window. It does get more challenging. I had bypass but the results are similar. Your hunger will come back but hopefully by then you have put into place all the good habits you'll need to stay at your goal weight.

I remember that feeling. I didn't believe anyone when they said that. I wasn't hungry for about 6 months or so. Now, I get hungry all the time BUT... it's if I don't eat at regular times. If I go longer than 4ish hours I start feeling it. It's more of a reminder for me to eat than hunger.

I definitely have no physical hunger which is a big help to me. The only hunger that I have to battle now is that darn head hunger and even that is not very often.
I am no longer driven to eat , before it was a constant white noise in my head but now sometimes I have to stop what I'm doing and get food because I know I have to eat or I feel sick.
Weird and wonderful!

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. While I do get hungry, it's normal I just need just a little to eat right now rather than the ravenous, eat until I'm in pain kind of hunger that I used to have. And it still takes very little to satisfy me. I just ate a chicken wing for lunch and feel like I'm about to explode. I can usually depend on the fullness to stay with me for an hour or so.
I started living my life outside of the WLS circles last year, so I had no idea that still not being hungry and being satisfied with so little was not the norm. I thought that after two years, it was still normal to have near 3 month post-op restrictions. I've found out from these boards that I am definitely the exception rather than the rule.
So, yes, there is a slight chance that you will get to enjoy the benefits of the restriction part of your surgery for years to come. But chances are, you won't (and I'm fully aware that I could "open up" at any time) so use this time to relearn your eating habits. Try to think of food in a different way, assigning it to not such an important part of your life while it is easiest to live with so little of it. Then, when the physical restrictions pass, you'll minimize your problems because you've put restrictions n your mind that, hopefully, will last the rest of your life.
Best of luck,
Cheers,
Chris
[Edited to say that I just noticed that you had VSG, so I have no idea what you should expect as far as the restriction feeling. So disregard everything I've said. I'm going to bed.]
