Products to be grateful for
Hi guys -
Just thought I'd start a thread where we can share some of the products we've found that have helped us with the process. I'm still looking for more helpful things, and I know some of the new folks out there would love to hear about what's good.
My favorites:
1> The New Wave oven
https://www.nuwaveoven.com/spark/index.php
I'm not a cook, so learning to cook for myself was a real trial. It seemed like every meat I made dried out - even the fish. This oven's been a life saver for me, cooking with infra-red and convection so that the juices of everything you make remain trapped inside. I haven't suffered from the foamies since I bought it. Godsend.
2> Pyrex 6 oz cups
Though I'm not using them as much anymore, these 6 oz cups help me make sure my serving sizes for soups, cottage cheese, etc. stay firmly in the 6 oz area. Small plates are a must, but these small bowls help you pre-measure everything you want to eat without thinking about it. Very handy.
3> Calcium supplements
I hear constantly how much everyone hates their calcium supplements. Luckily my hospital suggested Tropical Oasis, available through Whole Foods. It tastes like orange juice - easy to swallow, not chalky, though the texture can be a little thick at times. Alternately, I just bought a bunch of packages of the Bariatric Advantage Chewy Calcium Bites, which really do taste like a chocolate treat. Downside for me is I need to eat 6 a day to get in the 1500 units of calcium I need, and that adds up to 90 calories a day, over 600 a week. That makes me unhappy, so I'll probably be mixing Tropical Oasis with the chewy bites (orange in the morning, chocolate at night...nom nom nom.)
4> Syntrax Nectar "Fuzzy Navel" flavor
Every WLS patient has a protein shake they swear by, and I'm not exempt. This shake got me through the first two months, and though it's fading into the background as I have no problem making my protein goals with actual food I still down a glass of it once and awhile. Plenty of protein, no carbs and only 90 calories. Consistancy of juice and tastes like peach, not a chemical facsimile thereof. Worth it.
5> Crystal light on the go packs
Water became unappealing after the surgery, but crystal light helps me get close to my numbers (I still hardly ever hit the 80 ounces I'm supposed to, usually sticking closer to 60, 64 ounces).
Hope this helps some of our new folks!

1. I bought a Magic Bullet............wow.....I use it almost daily! Quick and easy clean up......not having to haul out my big blender is nice.
2. 1/2 c plastic containers with lids.......great for my puddings and jello and such at this stage.and even better to monitor my mushies stage next week.
3. A digital scale for weighing me with the proper 16 oz on it instead of re-calculating the ones that use the 10 scale (what is up with that anyway??)
4. I ordered new vials of protein, as I like using the 3 oz in a pinch with 42 g of protein.
That is all I can think of right now.
This is fun.......GREAT thread

Everything happens for a reason..Just believe...
*snickers* Kimi I had the very same reaction... then read about the blender and I was REALLY concerned lol.
I've been drinking Isopure protien drinks, the blue raspberry. Not my favorite drink, but I can't drink Dr. Pepper anymore lol. It's the best protien drink I've found.
Thanks for putting this thread together!

Jane,
I was going to post and I read your list. Your first three are my first three. The Magic Bullet is my favorite appliance. The 1/2 cup Gladware cups are perfect for portioning my cottage cheese, Jello, small snacks like granola and Cheerios for work that I mix into my yogurt.
I would add...
4. My cast iron grill pan. I use it many times a week to grill fish, chicken and pork. It's warm now and I am now grilling outdoors but love the convenience of indoor grilling.
5. Syntha 6 protein powders - I love the chocolate peanut butter and cookies and cream flavors.
