Calcium supplements
Just got my Calcium Citrate Chewy Bites in the mail from Bariatric Advantage.
Could anyone help me get this calcium thing straight in my head again? Target amount is 1500 mg a day, taking no more than 500 mg at a time? Is that right?
I have all this in my book at home, but I'm at work and trying to figure out a vitamin schedule.
Yes 1500mg/day...preferably with a little food, as it likes a little food for better absorbtion.
500 mg 3 times a day, but a few hours prior or after your multi with iron. Your body will just rid itself of anything higher than a 500mg dose, so I was told by a few veterans.
Iron and Cal Citrate fight for absorbtion, so they can not be taken together.
I do this.........
B...Cal Citrate, B12
L...Cal Cit
S...Cal Cit
Bedtime, Multi with Iron, Biotin

Jane's got it absolutely right... one addition for me though is my sublingual B12 which I take as soon as I wake up and I have to do two multivitamins with iron and an extra iron during the day so I do the two-hour apart thing with the calcium.
But don't forget too that iron competes with dairy (calcium) as well as tannins which are found in coffee and tea - even herb teas. So no calcium within two hours of cheese, milk, etc or coffee or tea.
My schedule is like this:
7:00 - B12, 2 calcium chewy bites, coffee
8:00 - breakfast
10:00 - multi with iron and my extra iron
12:00 - 2 calcium chewy bites
12:30 - lunch
2:30 - multi with iron
5:00 - 2 calcium chewy bites
6:00 - Dinner
I put timers on my iPhone to keep track.
I like the chewy bites... best tasting I've had thus far. I've heard that the new formula doesn't taste as good as the old company's but they aren't bad. I'm looking foward to the lemon flavor when it comes out for some variety. They are a little gritty at the end but not bad at all. Little candy like which feels like a treat.
