Well...I *thought* I was big boned...

Anyone else sort of discovering that they're not as enormously built as they once thought they were?

Don't get me wrong.  I'm 6'3", and very broadly built.  Even after I lose all this weight, I'm never going to be slender...at best I can aspire to "thickly built".  But as I'm losing weight I'm discovering that the massive frame I thought I had isn't quite as massive as I believed.

As I look at my knees shrink, for example, I'm finding that what I thought was part of the knee structure - bone, cartilege, etc. - was actually very dense fat.  My knees have actually gotten smaller than I thought was physically possible, and there's still flab to lose on them.

Anyone else have this sudden realization...?

haha..I was waiting for someone to post this!

I seriously thought I was big boned. Or maybe that was my excuse for being big. I'd always say "well I am big boned you know".

The more I shrink the more I see how wrong I was. I recently had hip and back x-rays done and the doctor commented how tiny I was from hip to hip and how "closed in" I was in that area. Tiny?? HUH?? Say WHAT??

I sometimes think my legs look like chicken legs. Either they are THAT small or I'm just happy my thighs aren't touching lol.

Fat just isn't on the outside.  There is also fat on the inside between stuff...

It's that sneeky fat that makes us look bigger boned. ;)

I was in the shower today pondering what will happen to the muscle mass I have built up over the years doing my job?  I really hope that after surgery my body doesn't decide to eat the muscle first for energy.

Loved sneeky fat!

I keep wondering why my calves look so puny despite the gym!?!

maintain your protein intake.....the body will burn that up instead of your muscles ;)

I'm so with you on the knees Don!  I've lost a large amount of fat from that area and love to look at my knees now...LOL.  I used to hate it when I would stoop down at 261 lbs...well, stooping is relative to weight...lol...I would get down as far as possible and would see these large "fleshy" pieces stick out on the inside of my legs near the knee...it was gross.  Now I stoop...as far as my bad knees will allow sans the weight and there's nothing by bone and real muscle...woohoo...I think my spinning classes and running have really helped this issue.

As for the rest of me...I'm now at 186 and I have been told by two friends (separately) over the weekend that I really look skinny...my response was I still have 56 lbs to go...both reacted very surprised.  One thought I was at goal already and the other can't figure out where I'm gonna find 56 lbs to lose...LOL.  I've been told by everyone (including my doctors) that I carry my weight well.  I have the goal of 130 lb...I'm gonna get there...I may look anorexic when I do, but I wanna see what 130 looks like...I missed it the first time around somewhere in the 4th or 5th grade...lol.

I don't know what my bone structure is...I think it's large...my nut thinks it's average...we'll see.

130 wow!  LOL about 4th or 5th grade!  True for me too!

I was trying to take a new profile picture today while hiking to Great Gully Falls and I realized I really need to wear some smaller clothes because I just look droopy everywhere . . .

New clothes are a must for a new profile!!  We need to see the new Meg!

I got to thinking this morning what am I going to wear tomorrow (my workplace is business attire).  I decided I didn't want to wear any baggy clothes so I went to Ross...got some great deals...a suit (lined blazer and skirt) for $15!!!  You can't beat that...get to Ross!

Now back to your regularly scheduled program...

I could never wrap my fingers around my wrists.  Never really thought they'd shrink enough so that I actually could.  I've had to have 4 or 5 links removed from my watch.  Who knew there was that much fat THERE?
