The Gym...
I bought a gym pass for Priscilla and myself last month. Then my dad passed away so going to the gym was the last thing on our minds. Now I think i'm ready to go to the gym and start some kind of healthy eating plan. The past month has been really bad with me stress eating and not taking care of myself very well...I don't know why I'm kind of nervous to go to the gym...I usually don't really care what people think. I just think it's going to be full of skinny people lol...
Did anyone not like to go to the gym for this reason? I'll get over it as soon as I go a few times i'm sure lol
And what do you guys think is the best diet plan to start doing right now? I have heard trying to stay under 1500 calories works the best but I never actually stuck to that one lol

Hey Christy, I would be happy to send you the 1200 calorie plan that I had to follow preop... I lost 53 pounds on it in six months. I didn't find it difficult to stick with, although I have to admit to not being complaint 100% of the time.... probably 90% though. Send me your email at ladyravenfyr at aol dot com and I'll send it to you. It also has all the tips for success on there. I created it for another friend of mine and she's had success with it as well.
As for the gym... well, I'm not there yet so I can't help you there except to encourage you as I encourage myself to get there.

You'll be surprised at who's at the gym these days! It's not all glamour people..
I encourage you to go to a water aerobics class...not only is it a great stress reducer its a fantastic workout..see if you like it.
I am pre-op RNY and post -op lap-band. I teach water aerobics 4 mornings a week for an hour a session.
I teach in the water with my class so that I get the workout too.
I am 319 lbs and do a kicka** class.
I have been doing it for 8 years now.
You get your cardio workout and by using the tools..foam weights, noodles, paddles you get lots of resistance to your long muscles which builds strength.
Go to the gym too...

I really, really abhor the gym. But not for the usual reasons. They can get crowded and I just feel so confined being surrounded by all of those people and machines and noise... It has nothing to do with being seen. I have to admit, I don't mind being seen these days. But, yeah, the confining factor has always been the biggest reason for me to avoid the gym.
Nowadays, this is my gym-
And this-
Yesterday, I hiked up the mountain behind my house (in the first picture.) As I was walking back down from the top, I stopped to change music on my iPod. These two young ladies were standing on their porch jus****ching me with huge smiles on their faces. I heard the words pogi and gwapo used more than once, and it made me smile myself. I just gave them a quick wave and continued on my way.
Little moments like that keep me reminded of why I've worked so damn hard over the past two and a half years for what I have.
Now, get off the computer and get thee to the gym (wherever that may be.)
Cheers,
Chris

I just realized that I never answered your question. Pogi and gwapo (from the Spanish word guapo) basically mean handsome/ good-looking/ cute, etc. In the Philippines, the word cute has a different connotation than in the states, and I've had to be careful with it. It is kind of an insult to call a person cute here, as the adjective is mainly reserved for puppy dogs, kittens or any other animal that may one day be eaten. It's happened more than once that I was giving a guy a compliment only to have him be horrified that I was equating him with a dog.
Damn dialects. I had to learn Hawai'ian Pidgin English, southern English, now Filipino English. It's almost as hard as learning Tagalog, the main ethnic langusge here (although pretty much everyone here speaks passable English.)
Cheers,
Chris

I figured that's what it meant and where gwapo came from. My friend is married to someone that is Filipino and she said there is a strong Spanish influence.
I understand about the dialects. I grew up in the mid-west and things we say there are different from here in CT. Have fun with them.
