Two quick questions
Hi folks -
I did my first leg workout with my trainer after an enforced 6 weeks away from the weights after my gall bladder surgery. My legs are in major pain today, to the point where I'm walking like I just dated an entire football team armed with extra large adult toys mounted on jackhammers.
Two questions:
1> I can never remember which type of painkiller we're allowed to take post-bypass. Is it Aspirin or Tylonol? Anyone remember?
2> My killer workout was two days ago - I was planning on going to the gym to do cardio tonight, almost all of which I need my aching, sore legs for. Is it better to go through with the workout and work through the pain, or should I let tonight slide? Anyone have any advice?

Unfortunately it's Tylonol. I eat those like candy. I usually end up taking some leftover narcotics for pain when it's really bad.
Not sure about the working out. I know I let it slide until I could walk again. Then I had more health issues and couldn't workout.. LOL Go figure, me with health issues?

Good for you... that you know what an entire football team like that would feel like. LOL... *g*.
First, what they said about no aspirin-based products.
As for the workout, I would suggest you keep moving but more slowly. Don't push. Do half speed on the treadmill but for the full amount of time. Then when you get home, soak in epson salts and ho****er and drink extra fluids for the swelling.

My experience has always been that after doing a heavy leg workout, it does take a few days to get sore. I always used to do cardio when they were sore and it helped. I was sore for less time and it would usually help it go away.
I would do the cardio if I were you. I cant advise you on the asperin as i am a newbie to this myself.

Hello...just a few other key things when doing legs and working out after being away for sometime. Most trainers like to start heavy as to what THEY think you are capable of doing, make sure you speak up and start light...leg muscles atrophy very quickly and it takes time to build up muscle again and you definitely don't want to overdue it and hurt yourself.
For sure soak in epson salt, ice your knees if there is swelling and just take your time...if your legs are hurting, work on your arms, if the treadmill is still too painful to do, see if your gym has a handbike, that is another great way of keeping your cardio up.
Good luck and feel better soon!

LMAO!!
1) My surgeon says only ibuprofen...no Tylenol or aspirin products.
2) Definitely hit the gym. Like Raven says, take it easy. But, make sure to do leg stretches before and after your workout...this will help ease the muscles. Also, drink lots of water...water helps the muscles to heal. You should be feeling much better tomorrow...however, you may want to find that football team...LOL.
