I can hardly frickin believe it.

This time next week, I will be one day post-op.  That is right...POST-OP.

VSG.....6 April ...9:30am..............there will be less of me to love!  HA HA

Getting things ready, leaving the 4th.  Dr Alvarez in Mexico......here I come!

I am looking forward to it, with no jitters.

The hair loss thing kinda creeps me out some.  Vanity I know, but you know what, when you are a big gal, you play up your good features, to try and lessen your bad ones.  For me it is my HAIR.

I am looking for any suggestions on what to do or not to do......to combat hair loss.

Vitamin suggestions.  Do's and don'ts......anything you can offer.

My grandma said....."Your hair is like a crown....wear it well.  If you put on a $3000 dress and your hair looks like 5 bucks.....then you look like 5 bucks."  God rest her soul....LOL

Thanks .............Jane

I like what your Grandma has to say LOL!!

I didn't lose that much hair. Well enough for me and my hair dresser to notice, but it's not noticeable to someone who doesn't know me. I'm not missing clumps or anything, it just got really thin. I ended up cutting it short so it didn't look so scraggly.

I've heard Bioten works. A lady who I see at support groups swears by a product called "Hair, Skin, and Nails" from GNC.

But DEFINITELY make sure you get your protein in and of course take the vitamins you are told to take!

Congrats and good luck!

I used Nioxin shampoo. I think you can find it at the beauty outlets like Sally's. I didn't lose clumps of hair or anything. I do know that it got really thin but I have really thick hair. So thin to me was normal for everyone else. It wasn't really noticeable to anyone else. I did cut it short so it wasn't as noticeable.

The good thing (and only good thing) about the hair loss is that it seems correlated with periods of  rapid weight loss (per the surgeon's office).  Now, if I see a few strands in my hand during the shower; I bet the weight has dropped.

Hope all goes well!

First, YAY on the close date!  How exciting!

But about the hair, its not a given that you will lose hair.  Some do, some don't.  Make sure you get your protein in every day, take your vitamins, eat nutritious foods.  At about 4 months out, I noticed a lot of hairs in the shower, but then that stopped.  It was really no different from the hair loss I experienced through the hormonal changes that happen after having a baby.
So maybe you will luck out too!

Keep us posted!

Congratulations. You will (after 3 months or so ) love your sleeve.

I am prone to hairloss. My hair goes past my bra strap when it's wet and I am still loosing goobs. But I have lots of short hair coming in. TMI - my hair is growing remarkably well ALL OVER with all these vitamins and protein. Wish I could just concentrate it where I want it.

Oh Jane I am so happy for you.

I would not worry too much about vitamins yet....I just started being able to take them last week (I am in my 5th week).  Just concentrate on being well and taking careful care of yourself.  Grab some good books.

Best of luck on your surgery and blessings for a speedy recovery.

There is a lot of medical tourism here in the Philippines, like Mexico, but WLS still isn't a big catagory here yet.  I am one of the few staplers in the country.  Makes me feel special...

On the hair loss, lemme tell you, this surgery was the best thing to happen to my hair.  There is no incidence of male pattern baldness on either side of my family.  I got Filipino hair from my mother, jet black and thick as steel wool.  I couldn't do a thing with it, and as a gay man, that was almost as distressing as the 200 extra pounds I was carrying around.

After surgery, my hair started thinning and became less rigid.  It's stopped thinning now, and has settled at, what I consider, a perfect consistency and thickness.  I can do whatever I want with it!  So, it actually worked out for me.

So, don't worry too much about what happens with your hair.  Believe me, when all of the other changes start taking place, you'll be saying, "What hair?"

Chris

P.S.- Loving the grandmother's quote.  Sending hugs to heaven just for her.
