So, I have been feeling a lot of pain in my lower right side of my stomach.. I finally gave in and went to the doctor. I have 6 gallstones and my gallbladder needs to come out.. A word of advise, don't ignore your pain!!!

Just two months after my surgery, I had a couple of kidney stones.  Well, in those x rays, they saw that I also had developed gall stones, which I showed no signs of during my surgery (had I already had them, my doctor had my permission to remove my gall bladder during my RNY surgery.)  My doctor gave me the option to have the bladder removed asap, or to wait and see if I never develope problems, which ran the risk of an open surgery if problems did escalate.  The decision was easy, and I had great insurance.  So, less than three months after major surgery, I was under the same doctor's knife (I guess scopes would be more accurate.)

I had a little pain in my abdomen before the discovery, which I simply attributed to the RNY itself, since it was in such proximity.  After the cholecystectomy, my doctor said that I was wise not to wait.  The stones were much larger than he suspected and would have, more than likely, caused a lot of problems.

Surprisingly, the pain from the gall bladder surgery was much more intense than that of the RNY.  It was a much rougher recovery, but after it was over and I was almost completely pain free for the first time snce my initial surgery, it was definitely worth it.

Best of luck.

I've had gallbladder attacks before but no stones. I feel ya! Ouch!!!!.

I'm so sorry this happened to you but better to get it out now than after it causes more problems. The good news is you are so much healthier now and the surgery will be much lower risk and your recovery should be so, so much easier. So much less to get through to get to that sick little organ. Keep us posted for sure and I'm sending good juju for a speedy recovery!!!

Smart advice not to ignore pain.  I had gallstones 10 years ago and the pain was horrible.  I had my gallbladder out then, so no problems.

Yeah, I couldn't ignore that pain either. I had mine out about 4 yrs ago and it was horrible. Worse than childbirth I thought!!! But if you can get through WLS you can get through gallbladder surgery. Good Luck!
